About Our Role

Simplot are seeking applications for the position of Field Operations Specialist to join our Raw Procurement division based at our Ulverstone manufacturing facility. Raw Procurement comprises farming and harvesting operations that support the annual sourcing of potatoes and vegetables for our manufacturing facilities, while also leading innovative research and development activities across Australia and beyond.

Reporting to the Raw Planner Scheduler and commencing late September or early October 2026, this permanent full-time position plays a key role in supporting raw procurement operations across Simplot's potato supply network. Working closely with growers, freight providers, contractors and manufacturing teams, you will coordinate the movement of approximately 320,000 tonnes of potatoes annually to meet factory processing and SKU requirements. This is a dynamic role requiring continuous planning, troubleshooting and reprioritisation, where supply plans may change within days or even hours in response to operational requirements.

You will also support crop monitoring, storage management, raw supply coordination and operational reporting activities, helping to ensure the efficient delivery of high-quality raw product to Simplot facilities across Tasmania. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a long-term career within Simplot's Raw Procurement function, with the role often serving as a stepping stone into broader operational, agricultural and leadership opportunities across the business.

What You Will Do

  • Coordinate daily raw potato scheduling and delivery activities to support production, quality, cost and regulatory requirements
  • Liaise with growers, freight providers, loading crews, storage operators and manufacturing teams to ensure efficient raw product movement
  • Monitor potato loading, receiving, quality grading and processing performance across field, storage and manufacturing locations
  • Conduct crop progress sampling, field assessments and data collection activities throughout the growing and harvest seasons
  • Support storage management activities, including storage grade monitoring and raw inventory reporting
  • Assist with agronomy, sustainability, variety evaluation and other Raw Procurement projects
  • Prepare and maintain accurate operational records, reports and statistics to support planning and decision-making
  • Support the achievement of safety, food safety, foreign material detection and finished product quality standards
  • Support infield operations as required

About You

  • 100% commitment to health, safety and wellbeing in the workplace
  • Strong commitment and availability, including outside standard work hours when required
  • Excellent time management, organisational and prioritisation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt quickly in a fast-changing environment
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with frontline operators, growers, contractors and leadership teams
  • Practical problem-solving skills with the ability to think outside the box
  • Strong planning, coordination and scheduling capabilities
  • High attention to detail and data accuracy
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel
  • Experience with Power BI or other business intelligence and reporting tools would be an advantage
  • Minimum 3+ years' related experience and/or training within agriculture, agronomy, food manufacturing, logistics, supply chain, production planning or a related industry
  • Bachelor's degree (BA or BS) is preferred; recent graduates in Agriculture, Agronomy, Crop Science, Soil Science, Plant Pathology, Agricultural Business/Economics or related disciplines will also be well regarded
  • Production agriculture experience is preferred
  • Understanding of inventory management, supply chain operations or production planning processes would be beneficial
  • Knowledge of potato production, crop monitoring or storage operations would be highly regarded
  • Current unrestricted Driver's Licence
