About our role

 

We currently have an opportunity for a State Field Manager to join the Simplot Commercial team, managing South Australia and Northern Territory. The State Field Manager is responsible for the management of effective and efficient retail sales and merchandising activities within a designated State to maximise sales and marketing objectives and ensure business targets are met.

 

This role is based in South Australia, both in the office and in the field. The role reports to our National Sales Manager – Retail Operations, based in Melbourne and has a team of 11 direct reports, comprising Sales Reps, Sales Support Reps, Merchandisers and a Territory Manager (NT). 
 

What you will do

 

  • Ensure effective execution of sales and field plans, achieving key metrics including NSV, sales targets, and planogram completion, while coaching the team to maximize sales
  • Train and coach the team in line with company policies and processes, focusing on performance, safety, and wellbeing, and ensure adherence to company procedures across all activities
  • Build strong internal and external relationships to meet retail objectives, conduct audits to assess and develop skills, and manage payroll and expenses to ensure budget compliance and territory contribution
  • Build strong ongoing relationships with customers through regular contact with State Trading team
  • Focus on building internal relationships with Simplot Sales and Marketing teams to enhance profile and that of the team
  • Work hand in hand with other States and NSM to execute National plan
  • Analyse, understand and evaluate market share data and develop appropriate strategies in conjunction with NSM Retail Ops
  • Manage State team to drive growth or defend our market share/position
  • Utilise customers internal communications systems to drive growth within State and share best practise
     

About you

 

  • Bachelor’s degree qualified, in Sales, Marketing or a related discipline 
  • Previous experience in state/regional management within FMCG 
  • Experience leading a team, ability to mentor and develop high performing talent 
  • Ability to hold team accountable, utilising a high level of emotional intelligence  
  • Previous experience in independent retail will be highly regarded – Drakes, Foodland, Romeos 
  • Ability to work in an agile environment, operating effectively during ambiguity 
  • Ability to build partnerships and work collaboratively with internal stakeholders – marketing, account management, safety 
  • Ability to build strong customer relationships, delivering customer-centric solutions 
  • Strategic mindset, ability to see future possibilities and translate them to breakthrough strategies
