Summary

Works under the direction of the Engineering Manager with a focus on plant/process support, process optimization objectives, and process engineering support for projects. This position will contribute to the company’s efficiency, profits, growth, and environmental compliance by providing assistance to the various plant process areas within the Don Plant Facility.  Will be assigned the responsibility for technical support of one or more process units within the facility and will support optimization efforts and capital projects within those units. May be assigned to work semi‑independently to organize and manage plant/process support and process optimization projects with approval and guidance from the Engineering Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Performs process engineering requiring knowledge and application of chemical engineering principles
  • Developing, documenting and directing/executing experiments, sampling, or test protocols.
  • Generating and monitoring operating procedures and test plans.
  • Cross functional communication between production, maintenance, engineering, safety, and environmental departments
  • Participates within project teams in establishing the appropriate designs, engineering, and execution processes
  • Use computer-assisted engineering software and equipment to perform engineering tasks
  • Contributes to the communication of project updates to senior management and key stakeholders
  • Responsible for preparing and gaining alignment on engineering proposals, feasibility studies, and vendor/construction packages
  • Responsible for tracking KPIs relevant to designated process areas and reporting variances back to production stakeholders and engineering management on a regular frequency
  • Engagement in and facilitation of Root Cause Analysis exercises tied to production, safety, or environmental
  • Analyzes the quality of fertilizer products, raw materials, and intermediate process streams
  • Initiates and oversees Management of Change (MOC) protocols for any relevant process, equipment, or instrumentation changes

Typical Education

  • Bachelor's Degree (B.S.) in Chemical Engineering from a nationally accredited 4-year college or university

Relevant Experience

  • Minimum 2+ years related experience and/or training
  • 5+ years related experience and/or training preferred
  • Must be able to perform basic material and energy balances
  • Knowledge in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, Project, and Power Point required.
  • Experience with AFT Fathom and REFPROP preferred but not required
  • Experience with Phosphate Fertilizer Production, Ammonia, and/or Sulfuric Acid is preferred but not required
  • Time management for efficient project completion
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work in a team environment

Candidate must be willing to spend time in an industrial plant/process operations where exposure to process noise, large operating equipment and machinery, and hazardous chemicals exist.
