Chemistry Engineering Intern Pocatello, ID

Summary

Works under the direction of a college facility advisor, Simplot process engineer, or Simplot engineering manager in support of departmental research, plant/process support and process optimization objectives. This position will contribute to the company’s efficiency, growth, and environmental compliance by providing assistance in research into recovery of metals from various process streams from Simplot’s mining and manufacturing facilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Must be able to run sample materials on lab equipment such as ICP-OES, ICP-MS, SEM-EDS, XRD, Raman/IR, and LC-MS Triple Quad
• Must be able to prepare sample material by addition of acid, pH adjustment, filtering and other methods as required
• Must be capable of developing, documenting and executing experiments, sampling or test protocols.
• Must be able to perform bench and pilot trial testing, assimilate and calculate obtained data, and produce meaningful final reports to provide information for engineering supervisors.
• Prepare chemical solutions for use as standards, reagents for quality control or solutions for processing experiments following standardized formulas or experimental procedures.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment. Have the ability to clean, calibrate, and repair process testing equipment or instrumentation as necessary to insure accurate measurements and operation for laboratory testing, pilot testing or plant trials.
• Time management for efficient project completion.

Typical Education

Working towards a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry

Relevant Experience

• Experience with lab equipment strongly preferred
• Knowledge in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, and Power Point required.
• Time management for efficient project completion
• Strong attention to detail
• Self-motivated with the ability to work in a team environment

Other Information

Candidate must also be able to stand for extended periods of time and occasionally be able to lift up 50 pounds. Candidate must be willing to spend time in an industrial plant/process operations where exposure to process noise, large operating equipment and machinery, and hazardous chemicals exists as well as be able to work in a process lab setting. Computer knowledge in Microsoft applications including Word and Excel is required.
