Safety Manager - Othello, WA

Summary
Reporting to the Plant Director and serving as a key member of the Plant Leadership Team, the Safety Manager will provide strategic direction, establish priorities, and lead health and safety initiatives across the site at our Food Manufacturing Process Facility in Othello, WA.
This role is critical in driving continuous improvement in workplace health and safety by implementing the site’s Health and Safety Program and supporting line management in executing the broader safety strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Coach and support managers, providing advice and guidance in relation to the management of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) risks, employee/contractor safety, OHS policies, etc.
- Coordinate OHS risk identification, risk assessment, and risk control in all areas across the site, lead incident investigation, and reporting activities
- Contribute to the development and review of OHS Policies and Procedures in line with regulatory and industry requirements
- Develops and implements proactive safety processes at Simplot facilities. Provides guidance and support for these processes with the goal of injury prevention.
- Provides leadership to create a consistent and standardized process for all safety related compliance activities for Simplot. Will collaborate with other plant safety professionals to gather input to create a systematic process for compliance.
- Conducts audits of safety programs and identifies and controls significant loss producing exposures. Provides guidance and assistance with investigations at the facilities and communicates findings company-wide.
- Evaluates performances of program activities and provides summary report to management.
- Oversees and manages the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) process for the company.
- Coordinates, develops, and facilitates, training programs involving supervisory development, emergency response, and regulatory compliance.
- Manages activities and provides leadership direction to management, professional, technical, and support personnel at the locations.
Typical Education
Bachelor's Degree (B.A. or B.S.) from 4 year college or university(Industrial or Occupational Health degree preferred)
Relevant Experience
5+ years related experience and/or training
Other Information
- Preferred CSP/OHST/CIH certifications, or willing to pursue a certification.
- Bilingual in Spanish (preferred)
- Knowledge/Experience
- Knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation, Codes of Practice and OSHA Standards
- Sound knowledge of hazard identification, risk assessment, risk control principles and their practical application to plant, equipment, processes, property, environment, and other risk exposures within the business.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and build partnerships both internally and externally at all levels of the organization
- Root cause methodology is desirable
