Maintenance Supervisor - Helm, CA

Summary

The Maintenance Supervisor directs the activities of hourly employees within the Maintenance Department to ensure efficient operations and minimize any downtime. This individual plans and schedules daily work assignments and preventative maintenance. The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that all team members are in compliance with Company policies, procedures, and practices to include but not limited to Environmental, Health, Safety, and Security (EHS&S) regulations at all times.

Key Responsibilities

  • Directs, coaches, mentors and disciplines Maintenance employees to ensure that maintenance goals and objectives are achieved. Responsible for employee development, performance reviews, and initiates corrective action as required.
  • Maintains schedule for all Maintenance hourly employees; makes adjustments to accommodate vacations, illness, etc; approves time-off requests and time cards; delegates tasks appropriately.
  • Answers questions and provides guidance related to processes and procedures including, but not limited to troubleshooting, responding to work-related equipment and/or coworker issues as needed.
  • Completes verbal and written reports to communicate plans and progress with management. Reviews and audits safe work permits and equipment isolation procedures for accuracy and compliance.
  • Prepares purchasing requisitions as needed and completes stock item add/change/delete paperwork to assist in maintaining proper inventory levels of standard parts and equipment to accommodate unscheduled and/or routine repairs of equipment.
  • Provides recommendations to management regarding equipment modifications, improvements, replacements, and/or procedural changes based on industry knowledge, expertise, equipment manuals, staff knowledge.
  • Coordinates on the job training for new maintenance employees and cross training efforts for all maintenance employees.
  • Maintains and updates maintenance procedures and maintenance equipment files as needed; monitors processes and ensures that all employees are following Maintenance procedures and manufacturer recommendations at all times.
  • Responsible for completing injury and incident reports, work orders, and end of shift reports. Follows up with projects and work orders. Reports any environmental or safety concerns within time requirements to the appropriate officials.
  • Maintains a safe working environment by complying with all rules and regulations, and continuously practices safety while performing duties. Performs Job Safety Analysis (JSA) with both contractors and employees; performs safety indoctrination for contractors.
  • Wears the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) including, but not limited to steel-toed boots, safety glasses, hard hat, hearing protection, and gloves when entering specified plant areas at all times. Additional PPE may be required based on specific job duties.

                                                                

Typical Education

Bachelor's degree in industrial, electrical, mechanical maintenance or engineering; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

 

Relevant Experience

• Must have a minimum of three (3) years related experience and/or training with previous supervisory experience.

Physical Requirements

  • This job requires the ability to work in excess of eight hours per day, off-duty hours, and weekends to reach operational goals and compliance requirements.
  • Job duties may require the ability to climb stairs, climb ladders, bend, stoop, reach, lift, grip, push, pull, move and/or carry equipment which may be in excess of 50 pounds.
  • Finger dexterity is required to operate a computer keyboard, small tools and equipment.
  • This individual may be subject to variations in noise levels and temperature changes due to weather conditions.
  • While performing the duties of this job, this individual is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Loose fitting clothing, open toe/heel shoes and the wearing of contact lenses are not permitted.

Other Information

  • Working knowledge of processing equipment including, but not limited to pumps, hydraulics, pneumatics, machine shop practices, etc.
  • Demonstrates leadership skills; Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Ability to communicate technical information, concepts, and ideas verbally and in writing.
  • Must have the ability to identify and resolve problems expeditiously; Strong analytical and interpretation skills; Demonstrates good judgment and develops alternative solutions.
  • Must be a team player and demonstrate a strong work ethic. Must have the ability to approach others in a tactful manner, react well under pressure, and be accurate and thorough.
  • Outstanding communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels of the organization including but not limited to internal and external partners and/or other personnel.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications to include, but not limited to Excel, Word, etc. Prior experience using JD Edwards preferred.
  • Travel may be required; valid drivers license.
  • Required to maintain reliable, regular attendance.
