SUMMARY
Operate diesel powered tractor/trailer combinations to transport cattle or agriculture products such as feed commodities and other materials in loose or packaged form.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operates a tractor/trailer combination to transport cattle, agriculture products and feed commodities in regional delivery area and/or long haul
- Assists in loading and unloading of products with the ability to operate forklift and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Assists in loading and unloading of livestock. Ensures accurate records regarding headcount and weights.
- Completes pre- and post-trip inspections, checking for defects. Checks all equipment including lights, brakes, tires, etc. Replenishes fluids such as fuel, oil and water. Maintains truck and trailer to include washing both, including removal of manure.
- Maintain a daily driver’s log in compliance with Company policy and DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations.
- Follows all regulations and laws, maintaining DOT and DMV standards with regards to safe transport.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
- Minimum of one year over-the-road driving experience and/or equivalent training from a certified driving school
- Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered for this role
REQUIREMENTS
- Must possess and maintain a valid CDL/DOT Class A driver’s license, with all endorsements except buses.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, road signs, maps, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES
- Must be able to pass DOT physical, both written and driving tests, and have a thorough knowledge of DOT driving regulations.
- Work days may include nights, weekends and holidays, depending on business need and delivery schedule.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to fumes, dirt and dust, or airborne particles and vibration.
- The employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
