Electrical & Instrumentation Trainee - Caldwell, ID

Summary

This position exists for Electrical and Instrumentation Technician Trainees to gain essential skills through on the job training and hands-on experience in electrical and process control instrumentation in the plant preparing for a career as a certified E&I Technician. 

This includes maintenance, sanitation, troubleshooting, calibration and repair of all electronic equipment and instrumentation on site.  The individual in this position will be required to hold a 2 year degree in Instrumentation Controls and Electrical Technology or be currently enrolled in an accredited Instrumentation Controls and Electrical Technology program.

Key Responsibilities

• Installs, operates, and maintains to a high level of reliability central process control equipment and instrumentation including, but not limited to computers, programmable controllers, motor controllers and wiring.
• Ensures instrumentation is tuned and calibrated and performs routine preventive/predictive maintenance on all instrumentation.
• May assist Engineering and others to ensure programming of PLCs and SCADA is reliable and meets the requirements.
• May assist Engineering and others in developing plans for electrical and automation systems for capital and other projects.
• Performs mechanical duties and functions as needed. 
• Conducts process auditing on a regular basis. 
• Troubleshoots and makes minor and major repairs of equipment, including automation systems, in order to prevent or minimize equipment and machine downtime.
• Identifies and performs preventative/predictive maintenance on equipment throughout the facility.
  
  • Maintains all shop inventories, tools and shop equipment.
  • Creates, performs and completes work orders in the system as assigned or as needed, prepares kitting when necessary.
  • Coordinates or schedules additional work as needed.
  • Identifies parts needed for work to be done, conducts inventory searches and locates parts.
  • Documents, monitors, maintains, and assists with reporting of shift events, logging Predictive Maintenance data and assists with work planning utilizing information systems and productivity software.
• Maintains Company standards for quality, food safety, sanitation and GMPs.
  
  • Works within safety rules and regulations in actively avoiding injury to self and others.
  • Ensures proper food safety sanitation and cleaning procedures of all processing equipment and tools.
• Maintains necessary level of communication with team members and other support groups and does so in a participative management style conducive with operational goals.
• May assist with training other plant personnel.
• Ensures that additional accountabilities required by management are handled in a manner necessary to meet operational standards.

• The Trainee must demonstrate proficiency in these tasks within 6000 hours to remain in good standing. 

Qualifications

General Requirements

• Associates of Applied Science degree or currently enrolled in program to obtain.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Must be at least 18 years of age (or older where required by law).
• Basic computer skills.

Physical Requirements
•    Lift and carry 50 pounds or more.
•    Stand and walk for extended periods.
•    Demonstrate manual dexterity, mobility, and coordination.
•    Ability to work in industrial manufacturing environments.
•    Must meet all requirements outlined in the Essential Functions document.

Training Program Overview

For Trainees who successfully complete the training program, their plant seniority date will be established as their first day in the role of E&I Technician.

Training Program Overview: This section provides a general overview of the program of training that E&I Trainees will undertake. It is not meant to be exhaustive.  

Level 1 (0 - 2,184 Hours)

• E&I Trainees must demonstrate proficiency with all assigned E&I Level 1 skills flex tasks within 2184 work hours from their start date.
  • Trainees will undergo weekly reviews to assess progress towards demonstrating proficiency in required tasks in the first 90 days.  Following the 90-day period, these reviews will occur on a monthly basis. Failure to demonstrate consistent progress may result disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.

Level 2 (2,185 - 4,368 Hours) 

• E&I Trainees must demonstrate proficiency with all assigned E&I Level 1 and 2 skills flex tasks within 2184-4368 hours
• E&I Trainees will be assigned a Predictive Maintenance Tool certification process or subject matter area expert
  • All Level 2 Trainees will receive entry level training on a Predictive Maintenance Tool.

Level 3 (4,368 - 6000 Hours)

• E&I Trainees must demonstrate proficiency with all assigned E&I level 1, 2, and applicable level 3 skills flex tasks as well as demonstrate proficiency in taking Hit Crew calls and getting equipment up and running in a timely manner.  Trainees must also assist with the following subject matter areas:
  • Vibration
  • Fan Balancing
  • UE Ultrasonic
  • Fluke IR
  • Schubert Area (subject matter expert)
  • LGV/Palletizer Area (subject matter expert)
  • Medium Voltage (subject matter expert)
  • Terminal splices
  • Distribution Room
  • Rack/un-rack buckets
  • Trip tests
  • Other needed preventative maintenance and predictive maintenance tasks    

The Trainee must demonstrate proficiency in these tasks within 6000 hours to remain in good standing.
