Summary
Simplot Grower Solutions is seeking a Crop Advisor Trainee to join our established team in Burns, Oregon. This is a unique opportunity to learn alongside an experienced Crop Advisor and develop into a full Crop Advisor role supporting growers across a long-standing territory that Simplot has helped build and serve for more than 30 years.
Burns offers a true rural lifestyle surrounded by ranching, agriculture, and wide-open spaces. Located about two hours from Bend, this region is known for its strong agricultural community and production of alfalfa, grass hay, pasture hay, and meadow crops. Key Responsibilities
As a Crop Advisor Trainee, you'll work closely with an experienced Crop Advisor while gradually taking ownership of customer relationships and agronomic responsibilities. Through hands-on training and mentorship, you'll learn how to:
• Build trusted relationships with growers and ranchers across the territory
• Recommend crop nutrition, crop protection, seed, specialty, and technology solutions
• Conduct sales calls and provide agronomic recommendations
• Support growers throughout the growing season by monitoring crop performance and identifying opportunities to improve yields and profitability
• Manage customer records and collaborate with operational teams to ensure exceptional service
• Develop the skills and knowledge needed to transition into a full Crop Advisor role
This position is designed as a development opportunity, with the goal of preparing the right individual to take on a full Crop Advisor territory as quickly as readiness allows.
Typical Education
- Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Crop Science, Agricultural Business, or a related field preferred
- Equivalent agricultural experience may be considered in lieu of degree
- Valid driver's license required
- Ability to work outdoors in varying field conditions and seasonal schedules
- Agriculture sales, agronomy, crop consulting, or agricultural retail experience is helpful but not required
Relevant Experience
We're open to a variety of backgrounds and experiences. The ideal candidate is passionate about agriculture, eager to learn, and excited about building a career supporting growers.
You may be a great fit if you have:
- A degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Crop Science, Animal Science, Agricultural Business, or a related field
- A farming, ranching, or agricultural background
- Experience through internships, work experience, FFA, 4-H, family farming operations, or agricultural retail
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- A self-starter mentality and willingness to spend time in the field with customers
Candidates with industry experience are encouraged to apply, but recent graduates looking to start their agronomy career are strongly encouraged as well.
