UX Design Lead

Boise, ID, US, 83702-6924

The J.R. Simplot Company is a diverse, privately held organization, with roots firmly planted in agriculture and agriculture-related businesses. The J.R. Simplot Company is a true farm-to-table company with operations that touch every aspect of agriculture, including seed production, farming and ranching, plant sciences, fertilizer manufacturing, food processing, commercial product development, and distribution.

The Simplot Digital Experience team is a newly formed organization within Simplot comprised of cross-functional, collaborative and digital first individuals with the goal of creating innovative solutions to support the company’s customer-facing digital assets.  We are starting from the ground up and looking for motivated and self-driven individuals to help bring this team to life.

To help us achieve our mission, we are hiring a UX Lead to join our team.

As a UX Lead within Simplot Digital Experience, you will be paving the way and defining what a creative team looks like at Simplot. You will cultivate a deep understanding of Simplot’s existing products across platforms and ensure any future iterations are executed in a way that creates a cohesive experience. You will work closely and collaboratively with the Visual designers (internal and external) and Product Owners across our projects to fulfill the overall product/feature vision.  This role is focused on designing a cohesive user experience and building out new features (from an overall product strategy and roadmap) defined by various stakeholders. The UX designer must think in non-linear terms: capturing interactions, edge-cases, and the various states of these experiences through deliverables such as user flows, product maps, wireframes, storyboards, and prototypes.

You should be comfortable with an agile approach to design, with an emphasis on user testing and rapid iteration. As a UX designer, you also seek to understand Simplot user behavior and motivation at a fundamental level – by leveraging UX research and through the development of journey maps, user personas, and other artifacts. Success in this role is dependent on being highly self-motivated, organized, always open to feedback and critique, and extremely collaborative. The UX Designer works directly with the Product Owners, Visual Designers, engineers, and Digital project managers on all digital engagements to deliver a consistent Simplot experience across all platforms.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strong, proven skill in creating wireframes and other UX design artifacts, with a focus on ensuring a unified experience across products
  • Provide oversight working with vendors to ensure that designs are consistent and follow our defined style guide
  • Excellent communication and organization skills. You will be expected to work across multiple projects involving internal and external parties
  • Experience working closely with engineers, product managers, and visual designers. Understands interaction design fundamentals and UI design best practices
  • Understands what is possible in modern Android, iOS, and web development and of design and interaction patterns and trends within each
  • Has experience owning, conducting and coordinating remote- and in-person user research using a variety of methodologies, and in documenting the results and findings
  • Has experience using prototyping and user testing practices to understand usability of concepts and to learn and iterate on the UX design
  • Create user-centered designs by considering market analysis, data, customer feedback, user research and technical constraints/opportunities.
  • Work closely with the development team to see your design through to deployment.
  • You should be just as comfortable extracting answers from our analytics as you are conducting a usability study of a new feature
  • Quickly and thoroughly create workflows, wireframes, design mockups and prototypes to effectively conceptualize new product initiatives and features
  • Be able to communicate complex, interactive design concepts clearly and persuasively across different audiences and varying levels of the organization
  • Be able to balance short-term product design needs with vision into the future
  • Ensure consistency across our products & integrations by adhering to our style guide and making updates when necessary

Typical Education
  • Bachelor's Degree (B.A. or B.S.) from 4 year college or university
Relevant Experience
  • 8+ years related experience and/or training
