Summary

This role will require an experienced leader with knowledge and experience in the implementation of best practices in logistics, distribution, warehousing, and inventory management.  This role is responsible for leading a team in deploying Simplot’s finished goods inventory throughout North America to best satisfy demand at the lowest distribution cost.  This role requires a leader with the capability to facilitate and drive change in a fast paced and ever-changing environment leveraging his/her strong interpersonal skills. Key to success in this position is the ability to work within and across the organization at all levels creating value and buy-in as a key change facilitator for the business.  This role is responsible for managing inventory levels at 30+ Warehouse and Forward Distribution Centers (FDC’s) throughout North America (including the United States, Canada, and Mexico).  These Warehouses and FDC’s are comprised of both Simplot owned locations and multiple third-party provider locations.  Effective relationships with those third-party providers will be essential to the success of the individual in this role.  

Key Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively across the organization to identify process gaps and improvement opportunities within the planning, deployment and logistics/distribution functions.
  • Responsible for accurate budget forecasting and continual evaluation of transportation costs by mode which may lead to real time alterations of distribution plans to minimize costs without introducing service risk.  Enable RFP process for truck and rail contracts to ensure costs and service are balanced.
  • Work collaboratively with Warehousing management at 30+ locations to manage inventory and capacity levels by location.  Work with logistics team to project truck and rail capacity requirements.  Work with logistics team to project truck and rail capacity requirements.
  • Monitor and adapt to outside influences such as weather, worker strikes, geopolitical pressures, and other force majeure events.
  • Manage activities through metrics and publish monthly KPI’s & Customized Order Fill reports for the sales team.  This role will help define process quality issues, measure current process performance, analyze root cause effects, and develop targeted process improvement opportunities with business partners.  Lead in the development of new reporting to drive appropriate action within the team and summary reporting to senior leadership.  Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the design and implementation of new systems, including ERP.

Typical Education

Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) from 4 year college or university

Relevant Experience

8+ years related experience and/or training

Other Information

ASCM (APICS) certifications are preferred but not required. Comprehensive knowledge of ERP, WMS, and numerous Simplot systems.  Ability to supervise, coach, motivate, and give direction to mid-level personnel. Ability to work collaboratively with a team and across other departments. Advanced knowledge in supply chain, logistics, communication, planning, interpersonal skills, and organizational skill. Advance computer skills, including MS Office Suite.  Ability to resolve complex problems and provide quick solutions to issues within logistics and end to end order management in an international shipping environment. Ability to analyze a position and develop a solid strategy to pursue. Must be a strong mentor that can motivate people. Proven track record in logistics. Proven track record of overseeing procedures and processes. Strong written and verbal skills.
