Summary
This role applies advanced subject matter expertise in database administration, data engineering, and data architecture to solve complex business challenges and drive strategic transformation. The Lead DBA/Data Engineer is a key technical leader who influences cross-functional teams, aligns data solutions with long-term company goals, and champions the adoption of modern technology stacks across delivery streams.You will work on diverse and complex projects requiring deep evaluation of multiple factors, exercising independent judgment within broadly defined policies. You’ll also mentor others, lead initiatives, and represent the organization in both internal and external engagements.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Delivery
This role serves as a technical lead supporting and maintaining the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) platform, ensuring its stability, performance, and scalability. While there may be opportunities to modernize or remediate parts of the platform, the focus is on delivering value through thoughtful, sustainable improvements. A key responsibility includes identifying and transitioning long-lived components from the legacy EDW platform to more modern, efficient technologies and locations that better align with future-state architecture. Will perform in-depth analysis of complex functional and business requirements to design scalable, secure, and high-performing data solutions.Prepare and complete code implementations, design solutions for others to build upon, and lead design activities across teams.Design, prepare, and execute unit tests to ensure data integrity and performance.Represent the team in customer/client engagements, demonstrating technical leadership and influencing decisions beyond the immediate team.
Database Administration & Engineering
This role provides expert-level support for the SQL Server database platform, ensuring performance, reliability, and scalability. Experience with other platforms such as IBM Db2, PostgreSQL, and Cosmos DB are a plus. Responsibilities include maintaining and optimizing data pipelines and applying broad technical knowledge to support infrastructure across multiple technology areas. Develop and maintain robust data pipelines and ETL processes to support enterprise data needs.
Data Architecture & Strategic Alignment
Collaborating with data architects, principal engineers and delivery leads to define and adhere to data architecture standards and patterns.Align data engineering efforts with long-term strategic goals of the company, ensuring consistency and scalability across delivery streams.Drive adoption of standardized technology stacks and modern data platforms.Integrate technical expertise with business understanding to create superior solutions that support both operational and analytical needs.Work to implement best practices from the Software Engineering and Data Engineering teams.
Mentorship & Process Improvement
Mentor team members and consult with cross-functional teams, customers, and vendors on complex technical issues.Lead process improvement initiatives and contribute to policy development for data management and engineering practices.Facilitate team decision-making and validate information to ensure alignment with strategic objectives.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s Degree (B.A. or B.S.) from a 4-year college or university.
Experience: 5+ years of experience in database administration, data engineering, and software development.
Certifications: Relevant certifications in database technologies, cloud platforms, or data architecture are a plus.
Required Skills & Expertise
- Advanced proficiency in SQL Server required, other database platform experience a plus.
- Advanced proficiency in SSIS package development and maintenance required.
- Experience with Azure Databricks a plus.
- Strong coding experience (e.g., Java, C#, Python) and familiarity with modern development tools and SCM would be a plus.
- Expertise in software testing methodologies and tools would be a plus.
- Proven experience in strategic planning, project management, and business analysis.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to work effectively in geographically dispersed teams.
- Demonstrated technical leadership and ability to drive innovation across teams.
