With a joint venture between the J.R. Simplot Company and KWS, a team of breeders and scientists are reinventing potatoes as a diploid hybrid crop. We are creating the potatoes of the future, together developing diploid hybrid potatoes. We believe that our hybrid potatoes based on true potato seed will address the challenges of potato production of the future. We currently have a position available located at Boise, ID that will support inbred line production in potato.

 

This position entails doubled haploid production from donor plant to DH plantlet regeneration. The position will support and work with breeders, to provide in vitro and doubled haploid potato plant for diploid hybrid potato breeding.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare tissue culture media and stock solutions for lab operations 
  • Perform all the task related to production of potato DH plants and tissue culture activities  
  • Keep the lab clean and follow good lab practices  
  • Maintain, operate, and clean laboratory instruments and equipment 
  • Participate in protocol development and process improvement  
  • Data documentation, assist in analysis 

Typical Education

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in agricultural or biological science 

Relevant Experience

  • At least 1 year of work experience in double haploid or plant tissue culture 
  • Good hand-eye coordination for tissue culture  
  • Ability to perform repetitive work without compromising quality of work
  • Experience working with microscopy
  • Attention to detail
