Summary
The Enterprise Integration Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and supporting integration solutions across Simplot's enterprise application landscape. This position requires a practical integration mindset. The successful candidate will evaluate business requirements, vendor-recommended integration methods, security requirements, reusability, cost, supportability, and speed to market when recommending solutions. Simplot's integration strategy emphasizes using the desired integration method provided by the application vendor and leveraging native capabilities when appropriate.
This role reports onsite at Simplot HQ in Boise, ID.
Solution Development and Support Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, deploy, and support enterprise integrations across cloud, on-premise, and hybrid application environments.
- Develop and support REST APIs, SQL-based integrations, data transformations, file-based integrations, and application-to-application integrations.
- Working with other Application Engineers, utilize vendor-native integration capabilities where appropriate, including SAP Integration Suite (CPI), JDE Orchestrator, and other application-specific tools.
- Develop and support MuleSoft Anypoint integrations when native tooling does not exist or is not desirable.
- Follow design principles and practices while ensuring solutions remain practical, supportable, and cost-effective.
- Evaluate integration approaches based on speed to market, maintainability, cost, scalability, and supportability.
- Build reusable integration components, templates, and patterns that accelerate future delivery.
- Collaborate with application teams, business analysts, engineers, platform teams, and vendors.
- Support production integrations, incident resolution, monitoring, and root cause analysis.
- Maintain integration documentation, standards, support procedures, and operational runbooks.
Integration Modernization & Optimization Responsibilities
- Assess existing integrations and identify opportunities to improve reliability, maintainability, observability, and operational support.
- Refactor, redesign, or modernize integrations that are difficult to troubleshoot, monitor, support, or extend.
- Reduce technical debt by eliminating unnecessary complexity, undocumented customizations, and fragile point-to-point integrations.
- Improve integration resilience through standardized error handling, logging, monitoring, alerting, retry mechanisms, and support procedures.
- Partner with application teams to transition legacy integrations toward reusable APIs, event-driven patterns, or vendor-supported approaches where appropriate.
- Establish and promote integration standards that improve supportability, reduce operational risk, and enable efficient knowledge transfer across teams.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience designing, developing, and supporting enterprise integrations. Strong experience with:
- Event-driven architecture and messaging platforms
- Middleware development
- C#, .NET, REST APIs, JSON, XML, SQL
- Data transformation and mapping
- Web services integration
- Experience with MuleSoft Anypoint Platform, SAP CPI and OData, Azure Integration Services, MSSQL, SSIS, or comparable integration technologies.
- Experience integrating ERP, SaaS, cloud, and on-premise applications.
- Understanding of API security, authentication, monitoring, and error handling.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to balance rapid delivery with long-term maintainability and supportability.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Azure Event Hub, Kafka, JMS, or similar technologies.
- Experience with Azure DevOps, Git, CI/CD, and automated deployment pipelines.
- Experience with Kubernetes, OpenShift, containers, or cloud-native architectures.
- Experience creating reusable integration frameworks, standards, and governance processes.
- Manufacturing, agriculture, supply chain, or enterprise ERP experience preferred.
Typical Education
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent experience.(B.A. or B.S.) from 4 year college or university.
