Summary

This role will provide legal guidance across various business units within the company. Counsel will identify and assess legal and business risks of current operations and processes.

Key Responsibilities

Policy Development and Governance:

  • Lead the drafting, review, harmonization, and implementation of employee related company-wide policies and standards, ensuring alignment with international, federal, and local laws, as well as industry best practices. 
  • Maintain guidelines for regional or location-based standards with aligned practice and protocols for review and ongoing administration.
  • Partner with leadership to align labor strategies with business goals and risk mitigation.

Legal and Regulatory Compliance:

  • Monitor changes in the law and regulatory environment, interpreting their impact on business operations. Collaborate with HR and leadership to assess legal risks of business decisions and policy changes.
  • Recommend a standard for employment contracts and recordkeeping of employee documentation.
  • Advise on interpretation, implementation, and enforcement of collective bargaining agreements. 

Training and Awareness:

  • Support development of training programs for HR and management on global employment law topics, including anti-discrimination and harassment.
  • Create resources to support policy implementation and legal awareness across global teams.
  • In partnership with the Employee Complaint Department, identify areas of opportunity for Employment Policy & Compliance adherence.

Dispute Resolution and Risk Management:

  • Support management of internal investigations and employee disputes, ensuring culturally sensitive and legally sound processes.
  • Assist with grievance procedures and advise on resolution strategies.
  • Coordinate with external counsel on international employment litigation or regulatory matters.

Typical Education

Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school or equivalent

Relevant Experience

  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in employment law, preferably with law firm experience.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and statement employment laws (e.g., FMLA, ADA, Title VII, wage and hour laws).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across time zones and cultures.
  • May require occasional travel, including international travel.
  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, interpersonal and presentation skills. 
  • Ability to translate complex legal concepts into practical guidance. 
  • Ability to influence and collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all organizational levels.
  • Technical skills: Familiarity with compliance management systems, policy automation tools, and incident reporting platforms.
  • Personal attributes: High ethical standards, integrity, and sound judgment. High level of discretion and professionalism. Adaptable, proactive, and resilient in the face of change.
