Summary
The Assistant Scientist role supports the effort of improving the genetic performance of strawberry through biotechnology while working in conjunction with a team to set up and carry out experiments to understand the effect of gene modifications in modern varieties. The qualified candidate will be able to demonstrate a good level of technical ability in laboratory, greenhouse and field methods. With supervision, can summarize and report results. They will also optimize existing methods and rapidly adapts new methods and be involved in multiple projects simultaneously while demonstrating a good understanding of the theoretical basis of these and related projects. They will act as an informed team member by providing information, analysis, recommendations and support of team.

Effective execution of responsibilities will require occasional domestic travel to field sites and overnight stays at trialing sites.
Typical Education
Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) of biology or related field
Relevant Experience
Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) of biology or related field with 1+ years of experience in a public or private research effort. Preferably, coursework and experience will have provided candidate with a basic understanding of biotechnology. Good verbal and written communication skills required. Candidate expected to be comfortable working within an integrated teams of experts.
