Environmental Specialist - Smoky Canyon (Afton, WY)

Summary

The Environmental Specialist is responsible for the development, coordination, and maintenance of the environmental programs, processes, and procedures that assure compliance with Simplot Policies and Federal, State, and Local regulations. This individual reviews, evaluates, and analyzes work processes to encourage and maintain environmental protection and compliance. The Environmental Specialist is responsible to ensure tests, inspections, reports, and responses to regulatory and corporate requirements and requests are completed and submitted on time. The role is responsible for coordinating facility audits, developing, scheduling and providing employee training as appropriate and to coordinate and report on the status of environmental action items.

Key Responsibilities

• Provides some technical expertise to solve various environmental problems. Assists in conducting scientific investigations, including some analysis and interpretation of trends using available precedents and guidelines. 
• Assists in the evaluation and review of proposed and existing codes, standards, regulations, and guidelines to determine the impact on programs and facility modifications.  
• Reads and interprets programs. Gathers samples, performs calculations, and prepares preliminary report summaries.           
• Consults with more senior environmental specialists and with technical personnel in the field to ensure that information is obtained in a practical and economic manner. Assists in providing technical support and maintenance of operating systems.                                     
• Calibrates, operates, and maintains scientific equipment and instruments. Assists others in overseeing the use of appropriate sampling and monitoring procedures and guidelines.
• Project Manager for environmental compliance projects.  Oversee all aspects of the project from start to completion.

• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to read and interpret Federal Regulations and technical documents.
• Ability to write clear, concise technical reports and documents. Must be competent working with computer programs such as Windows, Word/WordPerfect, and Excel.
• Good analytical (math or statistical) skills.
• Developing ability to interpret results, draw conclusions, and make reasonable recommendations to management regarding phases of programs for which the incumbent is responsible.
