The Mechanic works independently and with other plant personnel to perform preventative, predictive and routine maintenance tasks. his role includes troubleshooting issues, repairing failures of production and facilities equipment, and ensuring maximum equipment efficiency and effectiveness. This person provides direction for effective execution of maintenance activity on all machinery and equipment throughout the plant and office facilities. The Maintenance Mechanic is also responsible for the optimum utilization of available resources such as manpower, equipment, time, etc. This person must be responsible for decisions, actions and failures; must establish clear responsibilities and processes for monitoring work and measuring results. In addition, the maintenance mechanic must partner with others to get work done and work cooperatively with others across the organization to achieve shared objectives.

Key Responsibilities


  • Ability to work with others in a safe, cooperative, and productive manner
  • Perform inspections and PM’s on plant rotating equipment.
  • Perform Mechanical repairs in the Operating plants on Pumps, Motors, Valves, Piping, Heat Exchangers, Cooling Towers, Bucket Elevators, Belt lines, Kilns, etc.
  • Complete tear down inspection and repairs of plant equipment, Pumps, Motors, Gearboxes, valves etc.
  • Operate Overhead Cranes, Fork Lifts, Manlifts, Carry Deck Cranes(15 ton)
  • Respond to overtime and callout requirements as plant needs dictate.
  • Perform millwright jobs as assigned.
  • Completion of Primary Mechanical skills checklist.
  • Completion of Secondary Welding skills checklist.

Typical Education

High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

Relevant Experience

  • 3+ years Industrial Maintenance Experience.
  • The position is for day-shift that periodically requires schedule adjustments as plant needs dictate and may require rotating shift work

Required Certifications

Associate’s degree in Industrial Maintenance required if less than 2 years industrial maintenance experience.

Other Information

Compensation will be determined by level of demonstrated experience and education. 

Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanics; Basic electrical repair in an industrial/manufacturing environment; Ability to read and interpret documents and drawings and write detailed repair reports; Ability to analyze and make decisions; Ability to diagram equipment control problems; Strong verbal and written English communication skills; Good organizational and planning skills.

Preferred: Experience with 480-volt power and 24 control voltages to 120 volt electrical troubleshooting; Program and trouble shoot Allen Bradley SLC500 and MicroLogix series. Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactory, and represent the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Physical Requirements: Lift and move heavy equipment; Climb ladders and work in high, precarious places.

Working Environment: May be exposed to wet or humid conditions; May be exposed to outdoor weather conditions; May be exposed to high noise environments; May be exposed to chemicals used in the process; Could be in temperatures of -5 degrees.
