This position is to keep tools and floor areas in packaging in a clean, sanitary and safe condition.

The Portage facility is one of 5 plants (Caldwell, ID; Grand Forks, ND; Moses Lake, WA; and Othello, WA) within the processed potatoes division of the Food Group Division of the J.R. Simplot Company that produces food service French fries, granulated dehydrated mashed potatoes, shredded and southern style hash browns and specialty products.

The individual in this position will be required to fully understand the purpose and operation of the sanitation equipment and packaging equipment in their area of responsibility along with having the ability to make decisions based on sound when a situation dictates. It is imperative the person conducts themselves in a manner that ensures alertness and constant awareness of the safe operation of equipment and its surroundings.

The individual in this position will accomplish these tasks by employing a team concept through working with team members and following direction and instructions from a Sanitation 1, Packaging Area Supervisor or Shift Manager.

Constructive work relationships, well-developed communication and listening skills, as well as a positive attitude are key to the success of the individual holding this position.

Overtime requirements in this position are common and may be required to meet operational goals

Key Responsibilities

1. Ensure areas are cleaned in a safe, timely, and skilled manner that meets operations goals.

2. Must have knowledge of chemicals, their uses, dangers and accidental exposure procedures.

3. Must have knowledge of the operation of equipment and be able to dismantle equipment for cleaning and put it back together properly.

4. Must be willing to hand scrub equipment.

5. Must change sizing screens, as directed by supervisor.

6. Must provide relief during palletizer attendant’s breaks.

7. Demonstrates safe working habits and knowledge of clean-up procedures.

8. Must be able to work well and verbally communicate with coworkers and supervisors regarding current operating conditions.

9. Ensures attendance and participation in training activities appropriate to the position and to incorporate acquired skills and knowledge. Assists in training and instructing other personnel.

10. Ensures no injuries to self or others by following safe work practices and policies, including wearing appropriate PPE’s.

11. Ensures self-compliance with Company policies and procedures.

12. Ensures the interface with team members and other support groups is conducted in a participative management style conducive with operational goals.

13. Conducts oneself in a professional manner and ensures personal appearance meets the standards necessary to meet operational and Divisional standards.

14. Ensures that additional accountabilities as may be required by management, be handled in a manner necessary to meet operational and divisional standards.

Typical Education

High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

Relevant Experience

  1. 6+ months related experience and/or training
  2. Must be able to read, understand, and communicate in a manner to successfully perform the job duties,
  3. Must be able to perform basic math operations.
  4. Must be able to work, in a safe manner, with hazardous, corrosive chemicals.
  5. Must demonstrate manual dexterity in both hands.
  6. Must be able to work in extreme environments: wet, dry, hot, cold, and steamy.
  7. Must be able to maneuver in close quarters and climb stairs, ladders, scaffolds and catwalks on a regular basis.
  8. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  9. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  10. Must have an acceptable safety record.
  11. Must have an acceptable attendance record.

Must be able to stand on concrete floors for long periods of time. Must be able to understand and apply basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division). Must be able to work in confined spaces. Must be able to distinguish colors. Must be able to work in extreme environments: noise, hot, cold, wet and slick floors. Must be able to work with and around hazardous chemicals wearing appropriate PPE (full wetsuit, boots, chemical gloves and face shield or goggles-depending on location). Must have manual dexterity in both hands (turn valves, use high pressure hoses, carry buckets filled with water and chemicals). Must be able to use up to 50 pounds of push / pull force needed to push / pull barrels weighing up to 450 lbs. using a rolling device. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Must be able to maneuver in close quarters, at heights and climb stairs and ladders
