Summary

Works under the direction of the engineering manager in support of departmental research, plant/process support and process optimization objectives. This position will contribute to the company’s efficiency, growth and environmental compliance, by providing assistance to the various production facilities primarily located in Idaho, Utah, Wyoming and California. Initial focus will be on supporting the facility in Pocatello Idaho. 

 

Chemical engineering knowledge and principles shall be applied to assist with process optimization and new product development support at the production facilities.  Will be assigned the responsibility for planning, organizing, setting up, executing, and reporting results for experiments, pilot testing and plant trials that support engineering, manufacturing and technology project objectives. May be assigned to work semi‑independently to organize and manage research, plant/process support and process optimization projects with approval, guidance, and mentoring from the engineering manager.  

Key Responsibilities

  • Performs process engineering requiring knowledge and application of basic engineering principles under supervision
  • Developing, documenting and directing/executing experiments, sampling or test protocols.
  • Generating and monitoring operating procedures and test plans.
  • Must be able to direct bench, pilot or plant trial testing, assimilate and calculate obtained data, and produce meaningful final reports to provide information for engineering supervisors and key stakeholders
  • Will support the development of new or modified components, products, manufacturing processes, materials and equipment
  • Cross functional communication between production, maintenance, engineering, safety and environmental departments
  • Participates within teams in establishing the appropriate designs, engineering and execution processes
  • Use computer-assisted engineering software and equipment to perform engineering tasks
  • Contributes to the communication of project updates to senior management and key stakeholders
  • Responsible for preparing and gaining alignment on engineering proposals, feasibility studies and vendor/construction packages
  • Provides support to staff members as needed
  • Must be willing to travel to various production facilities on a project to project basis which could require anywhere from 20-40 days on the road on an annual basis.

Typical Education

Bachelor's Degree (B.A. or B.S.) from 4 year college or university

Relevant Experience

  • 1+ years related experience and/or training
  • Must be able to perform basic material and energy balances
  • Experience with lab and/or pilot plants strongly preferred
  • Knowledge in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel , Project and Power Point required.
  • Experience with Phosphate Fertilizer Production is preferred but not required
  • Time management for efficient project completion
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work in a team environment

Other Information

Candidate must also be able to stand for extended periods of time and occasionally be able to lift up 50 pounds. Candidate must be willing to spend time in an industrial plant/process operations where exposure to process noise, large operating equipment and machinery, and hazardous chemicals exists as well as be able to work in a process lab setting.
