Summary
This job is responsible for electrical/electronic and mechanical maintenance, efficient and effective operation and sanitation of defect removal equipment within the Simplot factory site during his/her shift in a manner that assures personnel safety, food safety and optimal equipment performance.
The individual in this job must be capable of optimizing the performance of all equipment under their responsibility. Electrical & mechanical support will be provided by the maintenance department to ensure adequate time is devoted to the programming needs and checks of the equipment. Sanitation of the equipment will also be required as needed, with ongoing support from the operations team.
The individual in this job must establish and maintain open communications and productive working relationships with various team leaders, maintenance personnel, operators, attendants, laborers & members of management.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensures no injuries to self or others by following safe work practices, procedures (including Standard Operating Procedures), and policies.
- Operates and monitors the optical defect sorting systems to achieve optimum defect removal efficiencies.
- Provides skilled troubleshooting, repair, and support on the optical defect sorting systems and supporting equipment including mechanical and plumbing, electrical, and electronic aspects.
- Inspects components of the defect sorting systems and performs the preventative maintenance procedures.
- Ensures proper food safety sanitation and cleaning procedures of the defect sorting systems.
- Provides troubleshooting support and repair of the plant analytical instruments and equipment.
- Provides minimal IT/LAN user support for the factory (including HMI and SCADA computers).
- Ensures the upkeep & accuracy of data reporting systems such as maintenance CMMS system(s), production MMS, department logs, work orders and supply checkout procedures.
- Conducts daily line inspections of area(s) as directed.
- Helps ensure effective training of new defect system personnel.
- Ensures that work orders are completed as assigned in a timely manner.
- Maintains work area in a clean, functional and safe condition.
- Performs assigned responsibilities during plant evacuation or other emergency situations.
- Ensures attendance and participation in training activities appropriate to the position and incorporates acquired skills and knowledge.
- Ensures self-compliance with Company policies and procedures and Union Labor Agreement.
- Ensures the interface with team members and other support groups is conducted in a professional manner contributing to meeting operational goals.
- Conducts oneself in a professional manner and ensures personal appearance meets the standards necessary to perform the job function safely while representing the Company.
- Ensures that additional accountabilities as may be required by management be handled in a manner necessary to meet Food Group operational standards.
Typical Education
It is preferred that the candidate will have an Associate’s Degree (A.A.S.) in Electronics, or nearly complete, in the process of acquiring the degree, or some other equivalent technical degree or certification from a trade school, college, or military training; or possess an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Relevant Experience

This individual will be required to clearly communicate resources needed for equipment optimization.
The work area is primarily in the process area, however, there is equipment in a cold section of the facility. The responsibilities of this position require the ability to work in sometimes extreme environments (hot & wet). Weekend and overtime work in this position may be required to meet operational goals.
The individual in this position will be required to understand the operation of the factory and have the ability to make decisions based on sound judgment when a situation dictates. It is imperative that the individual in the SST position conduct themselves in a manner that ensures alertness and constant awareness for the safe and efficient operation of equipment within their area of responsibility.

- Must be able to work independently, with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to read, understand, and communicate materials in a manner to successfully perform the job duties.
- Must be able to able to identify and distinguish colors (i.e. wiring, instrumentation, color codes, etc).
- Must demonstrate good computer skills. Must demonstrate math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, counting, averages, and percentages) including the proper use of a calculator.
- Must be able to work at heights. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to work in extreme environments: loud, hot, wet, and occasional slippery floors. Must be able to maneuver in close quarters and climb stairs, ladders, and catwalks on a regular basis.
- Must be able to safely work with and around cleaning and sanitizing chemicals and be able to effectively use personal protective equipment as appropriate for given tasks.
- Must have their own hand tools.
- Must have good electrical, and mechanical skills, demonstrate a willingness to successfully operate, maintain, and perform equipment sanitation duties within area(s) of responsibility to defect systems equipment, and demonstrate excellent communication skills during a panel interview.
