About the role


  • We now have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Packaging Technologist to join our innovative team.
  • Provide leadership and technical expertise for complex New Product Innovation and existing packaging formats across our portfolios.
  • As our Senior Packaging Technologist, you will collaborate and engage with internal and external stakeholders for packaging design, perform artwork reviews for new and existing packaging.  
  • The role will support the Packaging Development Manager and the wider team to advance the Packaging Innovation and Sustainability Strategy by educating and building greater awareness of the strategy and roadmap across cross-functional teams.


The role will play a partnership role with procurement, supply chain, production sites and packaging suppliers to research and implement new packaging solutions as well as facilitating value improvement projects.

What will you do


  • Develop innovative packaging solutions that enhance food safety, minimise food waste and contribute to our innovation and sustainability goals for Complex NPI projects 
  • Partner with Procurement, Commercial and Manufacturing to drive an aligned & focused open innovation and value improvement program with key packaging suppliers
  • Manage packaging specifications and all artwork and labelling issues related to packaging for projects and oversee packaging reporting both reputation and regulatory with packaging technologists
  • Provide technical and specialist support and advice across business and specifically with Supply Chain for issues and trouble shooting 
  • Oversea packaging reporting for both reputation and regulatory with packaging technologists including any required external engagement 
  • Proactively lead with ideas to enable us to quick adopt new innovative and sustainable packaging solutions to meet category and Simplot Food Futures needs 
  • Support in building a high performing team and mentor and coach junior packaging team members 
  • Explore trends and insights as well as future emerging / promising growth options in packaging and printing to meet consumer & customer needs

What will you bring


  • Significant Packaging technologist experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant packaging qualifications
  • Ability to learn new technologies and communicate packaging related topics
  • Ability to leverage digital expertise for informing
  • Experience in Stage Gate product innovation process
  • Knowledge of food contact safety requirements for Packaging
  • Demonstrated ability to influence key stakeholders in driving strategic decisions that drive growth through Packaging Development
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Proven experience in project management skills for planning and managing multiple projects
  • Demonstrated ability to develop cross-functional relationships
