The Role

Due to internal movement we have an exciting opportunity for a highly experienced, passionate, and motivated Chef with expertise in meal & product development to join our Innovation and Growth (I&G) team. Working closely with the Development Chef & Culinary Trainer, you will assist with all aspects of working and preparing food in the Culinary Centre and be responsible for the running of the internal catering service. In addition, you will support the management of all stock items, consumables and equipment for I&G at our Mentone, Melbourne Head Office. 

What you will do


As a Chef, you will be a vital part of our Innovative Culinary team and will work cross functionally with a range of stakeholders and project teams across the business. Your role will be varied and challenging and include but not be limited to the below.


  • Preparation of hot and cold food for the purpose of catering, evaluations, Sensory sessions, internal and external meetings within Simplot’s head office.
  • Assist with all Sensory functions including providing technical expertise and advice, sensory pre-planning, preparation and cooking of products for Sensory, data entry and session bookings.
  • Reviewing the Internal Catering system, planning and developing the quarterly menus.
  • Ensure best price is achieved on purchased non-Simplot food items and small equipment.
  • Maintain a clean organised work environment in the Culinary 
  • Manage effective external supplier relationships to ensure the cost-effective delivery of food items.
  • Sourcing and shopping of food items and products for cook-ups, presentations and catering as required.
  • Responsible for food stock in all areas within the kitchen, storage fridge, and storage freezers.
  • Responsible for the ordering and storage of consumable items for I&G 

What you will bring


You will have a minimum Certificate III – Commercial Cookery, along with Occupational Health and Hygiene/Food Handling certificates, combined with culinary experience, ideally working within a fast paced, volume foodservice environment.  You will have good analytical skills and importantly have excellent communication skills and the ability to work well within a supportive team environment.
