Summary

The Process Control Analyst is responsible for plant instrumentation, control systems, and electrical/electronic equipment as well as other associated equipment.  The Process Control Analyst is responsible for programming, documenting, upgrading, determining the layout, and troubleshooting equipment and systems; ensures that the plant instrumentation and control systems operate at optimum levels and that any new programs and/or changes to existing programs are successfully implemented with minimal direction and supervision.  The Process Control Analyst will provide technical support related to the process control computer system and formulate programming logic that is required to modify or add new process control information as required from operating or engineering departments.  The Process Control Analyst will prepare screen displays for new or modified items; assist in network expansion, and set-up for computers for server or client services.  The Process Control Analyst will work directly with end users to resolve problems and oversees/supervises the repair and maintenance of process control systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Designs and programs logic to accomplish process control changes within the plant.  Designs new screen displays, performs installations, repairs, upgrades, and troubleshooting for software and hardware related to operational process control.  Provide installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance for all of the Distributive Control Systems (DCS) and Programmable Logic Control (PLC) infrastructures at the locations.
  • Performs work as directed to maintain or expand control networks and logic to ensure redundancy on control systems for the plant.  Monitor, learn, understand, and apply remedies to problems with process control servers and clients.  Assess problems/resolutions to determine where improvements can be made or trends identified.
  • Assists with building and maintaining hardware inventory and documentation for areas supported.  Obtain training to increase or improve knowledge of information systems technology.  Make suggestions to department peers as applicable.
  • Ensures operation and troubleshooting to a high level of reliability for all existing process control equipment from computers and PLC’s including Variable Frequency Drives (VFD), instrumentation, and wiring.
  • Oversees the calibration, installation, and documentation of electrical/electronic equipment, control systems and instruments to meet operational and maintenance goals.  Oversees the repair and maintenance of all existing process control equipment to ensure proper functioning.  Troubleshoots and identifies root causes and facilitates the repairs.
  • Ensures the safe and efficient programming of control systems such as Delta V, PLC’s, SCADA, HMI, and stand-alone controllers and other devices as required.  Ensures the accuracy of data reporting systems and records such as maintenance logs, preventative maintenance, work orders, inventory control, and other documentation as required.
  • Ensures the effective training of bargaining unit employees and other staff as appropriate in repairing and maintaining equipment.  Ensures that the interface with employees and other support groups is conducted in a participative management style consistent with operational goals.

  • Maintains safe working environment by complying with all rules and regulations, and continuously practices safety while performing duties. Wears the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to steel-toed boots, safety glasses, hard hat, ear protection, and gloves when entering specified plant areas at all times.  Additional PPE may be required based on your job duties.  Performs assigned responsibilities during plant evacuation or other emergency situations and ensures the safety of self and others.

Typical Education

  • High school diploma required.  Two (2) or four (4) year degree desirable in Computer Science, Networking, Information Systems, or related discipline; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Relevant Experience

  • Minimum of one (1) year of related experience and/or training in process control design and application in an industrial setting.

Additional Information

  • Specialized knowledge of Boolean Algebra, computer numbering systems, industrial communication protocols, Ethernet & Delta V/Function Block programming preferred.
  • Experience with Auto Cad, Allen Bradley PLC programming, Profibus I/O configuration, Wonderware and Red Lion Human Machine Interface (HMI) programming a plus.
  • Must have an understanding of continuous process controls in an industrial manufacturing plant environment.  Must understand how to use and program PID control loops for process control and be able to use advance PID concepts such as feed forward control.
  • Must be able to configure hardware such as DCS controllers, PLC’s, and remote I/O.
  • Must be able to develop plans, control sequences and programs and select control equipment for capital and other control projects.
  • Must be able to maintain up-to-date records and documentation for all software programs and control wiring.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems in an industrial manufacturing plan a plus.
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships.  Must project a professional image and demeanor. 
  • Required to maintain reliable, regular attendance.

Physical Requirements

  • This job requires the ability to work in excess of eight hours per day, off-duty hours, and weekends to reach operational goals and compliance requirements.
  • This individual must have the ability to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Job duties may require the ability to climb stairs, climb ladders, bend, stoop, reach, lift, grip, push, pull, move and/or carry equipment which may be in excess of 25 pounds.
  • In order to perform the duties of this job, the incumbent may be required to walk in excess of 500 yards to reach areas across the facility.
  • Finger dexterity required to operate computer equipment.
  • Working in this plant operations environment requires the use of safety equipment to include, but not limited to safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toed boots, hard hat, and uniforms (in some areas).
  • This individual may be subject to variations in noise levels and temperature changes due to weather conditions.
  • While performing the duties of this job, this individual may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Loose fitting clothing, open toe/heel shoes and the wearing of contact lenses are not permitted.
