Journeyperson - Mobile Equipment Mechanic (Lathrop, CA)

The Mobile Equipment Mechanic is responsible for performing preventative and corrective maintenance on all mobile equipment including, but not limited to gasoline, diesel, electric, and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) powered vehicles. This individual maintains and repairs electrical components and systems, hydraulic systems, transmissions, and internal combustion engines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Performs periodic maintenance including, but not limited to changing fluids, lubricating, adjusting, and changing filters on various mobile equipment including, but not limited to cranes, forklifts, loaders, skid steer loader, track mobiles, yard goat, and man lifts
  • Diagnoses and repairs mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic failures; diagnoses and repairs various types of internal combustion engines. Diagnoses using CAT ET, CAT Truck tool and online diagnostic tools.
  • Performs precision measurements using micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, feeler gauges, and other precision instruments to verify conformance to specifications
  • Responsible for general cleanup throughout the shop area, and disposes of hazardous waste according to specified procedures
  • Assists in tracking general shop inventory; anticipates equipment, parts, and supply needs; advises supervisor on inventory levels
  • Prepares mechanical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends. Assists in maintaining equipment files by completing Preventative Maintenance (PM) reports, and filing equipment manuals
  • Maintains and repairs 12-volt and 24-volt automotive systems; coordinates any warranty repairs of rented equipment as needed
  • Maintains a safe working environment by complying with all rules and regulations, and continuously practices safety while performing duties. Actively participates in the Respirator Program.
  • Wears the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to steel-toed boots, safety glasses, hard hat, hearing protection, and gloves as required. May be required to wear additional PPE based on specific job duties

Typical Education

  • High School diploma or GED; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience

Relevant Experience

  • Minimum of four (4) plus years’ experience and/or training in a manufacturing or chemical plant.
  • Knowledge of basic math skills and reasoning; ability to measure accurately.
  • Excellent communication skills, time management skills, and attention to details.
  • Ability to work independently or under minimal supervisor; a team player, and ability to work with multiple disciplines.
  • Required to maintain reliable, regular attendance.
  • Ability to use a variety of hand tools and electronic diagnostic equipment; ability to use tools including, but not limited to bench/hand grinder, torch, lifting equipment (electrical and mechanical), etc.
  • Basic welding skills are desired
  • Ability to work independently or under minimal supervisor; a team player, and ability to work with multiple disciplines.
  • Ability to reference mobile equipment manuals for troubleshooting, repair methods, and assembly requirements.
  • Required to operate a front-end loader, forklift, and/or other equipment as needed; valid driver’s license required.

  • Journeyperson Card Desired
  • Valid driver’s license required

Other Information

Pay: $35.60

Schedule: M-F 6am-2:30pm - WEEKENDS OFF (Overtime available).

Requires the ability to work in excess of eight hours per day and or off-duty hours and weekends to reach operational goals and compliance requirements; Ability to operate a motor vehicle, Lift, climb stairs, climb ladders, bend, stoop, reach, lift, grip, push, pull, move and/or carry equipment up to 50 pounds.

Working in this plant operations environment requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to; eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, work boots, hard hat, face shields, respiratory protective equipment and uniforms, subject to variation in noise levels and temperature changes due to weather conditions. While performing the duties of this job, this individual is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals. Loose fitting clothing, open toe/heel shoes and the wearing of contact lenses is not permitted.
