Summary

Tends, maintains, and adjust machine that stock, fill, wrap, seal and label bags with finished product. This individual ensures that product and bagging requirements are met safely, efficiently and with minimal waste. The Packaging Operator inspects bagging line processes and materials and responds promptly to any machine malfunctions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Follow all safety and compliance policies/procedures/systems of the company - (C.A.R.E – Commit, Access, Recognize, Encourage) program.
  • Follow full compliance with food safety & quality standards & norms – HACCP, GMP & GHP.
  • Commit, comply, support the Simplot Sustainability Strategy and work towards achieving the sustainability targets of the company.
  • Perform, maintain, and adjust machine that stock, fill, wrap, seal and label bags with finished product.
  • Execute product and bagging requirements safely, efficiently and with minimal waste generation.
  • Prepare daily Packing parameter sheets as per SOP.
  • Monitor and execute that all equipment in the packing section is operating to its full potential in order to supply the packing line with the required quantity and quality of specified SKUs.
  • Ensure all packing waste is weighed, recorded, and dumped on the operational sheet.
  • Remove packaging materials once they are finished Packaging in the equipment, and transfer to the proper/designated area.
  • Clean the machine after any kind of breakdown or when it is not in use and sterilize thoroughly to ensure it remains sanitised.
  • Execute and perform various testing of finish product bag weighing, weight control, maintain sealing quality etc. as per SOP to ensure the primary and secondary packaging are meeting the quality requirement to achieve finish product standards.
  • Control & manage the Packing parameter and, if any quality issue arises in the packed bag, inform the Packing Area Leader / Shift in Charge, and take corrective action to achieve quality standards as instructed.
  • Consumption of all packaging materials within the specification and ensure stock of packaging materials as per the consumption patterns.
  • Perform necessary pre-start up activities during plant start up and after CIP (Clean in Place) for start smooth startup of packing section.
  • Inform & update packing out-put, downtime, or quality issues to the control room.
  • Be cross trained for all packaging line equipment duties on regular intervals as per company requirements.
  • Meet daily plan within specified percent of output including packing raw material to improve product Yield within the finish product specification.
  • Control waste generated within the Packing area. To investigate whenever excessive waste is found & inform the Packing Area Leader.
  • Actively participate with CI team, to provide suggestions related to quality, zero defects, reduce cost and improvements in overall Packing.
  • Maintain the Packing to achieve zero customer complaints and restricted products are within the specified targets.
  • Perform, participate and execute all duties as assigned for the execution of NPD trials.
  • Inspect parts to specifications and adjusting as necessary to maintain quality specifications.
  • Perform & execute CIP for ensuring optimum quality products through completing proper clean up and sanitation tasks to meet the company regulatory standards.
  • Operate the CIP system to clean and sanitize all packing equipment . Assemble and disassemble equipment for proper cleaning/sanitizing as per manufacturer instructions.
  • Prepare, fill and maintain the log sheets on regular intervals as per SOPs.
  • Brief ighlights related to shift Packing activities to the Packing Area Leader at the end of every shift.
  • Attend the daily, weekly, and monthly production review meetings.
  • Communicate incomplete/pending packing jobs to the next Packing operator/reliever.
  • Communicate with engineering team if any abnormal machine issue is found/detected.
  • Active participation in different programs, trainings & initiatives taken by company from time to time.

Typical Education

High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

Relevant Experience

3+ years related experience and/or training

Required Certifications

Must have completed ITI(Mechanical) or Certificate courses (Packaging) or Diploma Fresher on full time basis in Mechanical discipline from recognized academic institute which is approved by UGC or similar accreditation body 

Other Information

  • Must have good knowledge in operations of packing (FFS, Weigher, Automatic Packaging system, metal detectors, etc) & product quality improvement skills.
  • Must have keen observation and troubleshooting skills related to packing and supporting equipment & systems.
  • Must have good knowledge of OEE, Yield Improvement & Packing Variability.
  • Must have exposure of automation & PLC control system. 
  • Must have Knowledge of Hygiene, Sanitation, CIP system.
  • Must have Knowledge of HACCP, GMP, GHP, CCP, 5S, Kaizen, Food Safety & hygiene. 
  • Must be able to use a computer and have basic computer skills.
  • Must be able make entries in daily logs, computers & check sheets.
  • Must be able to complete assigned jobs independently by using technical knowhow.
  • Work exposures may include, but not limited to: heights, noise, chemicals, mechanical, and electrical hazards. 
  • Ability & willingness to work in high temperature, humid, refrigerated & frozen environments, wet & slick floors.
  • Team Player, coordination skills and good interpersonal skills.
  • Integrity - maintains high level of confidentiality and transparent reporting with supervisor. 
  • Good time management skills and must be capable of setting priorities and multitask.
  • Ability to manage & analyse difficult/critical situations, be flexible and work well under pressure.
  • Problem -solving abilities. Prompt decision maker – in case of critical situation & emergencies.
