Staff Veterinarian- Land & Livestock (Idaho)

Summary
Provide consultation and advice on animal welfare and production management to customers throughout the Northwest region. Consult with customers, organizations, and other veterinary specialists on developing effective protocols for herd management. Participate in management meetings to educate and advise personnel on performing routine procedures. May develop instructional guides on how to treat common problems that arise. Monitor the health of animals and study the effectiveness of medications, vaccinations, feeding programs, etc. Investigates unusual problems such as feed contamination or unusually high condemnation rates. Ensures compliance with federal and state agencies where applicable.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop Veterinarian client patient relationships to prescribe animal medications and medicated feed
- Achieve an active communicative relationship between self and the client leading to overall agreement in assuming responsibility for making medical judgments regarding the health and nutrition of the client’s animals
- Obtain an on-site knowledge of the different phases of the operations such as breeding, weaning, and calving
• Evaluate health and treatment records to provide recommendations to customers on low stress handling, disease prevention, immunization and treatment protocols including product and protocol efficacy and cost/benefit analysis.
• Provide input for use in developing and implementing strategies to enhance positive outcomes in areas of general health, vaccination, treatment, etc.
• Solidify Simplot Western Stockmen’s existing VCPR customer relationships
• Write prescriptions for customers
• Provide nutritional insight such as recommendations for SWS minerals, proteins, supplements
• Partner with Simplot Western Stockmen’s sales and management teams to develop future growth strategies including Veterinarian networks
• Build and train basic curriculum for SWS staff. “Animal health 101”. Cycle of life.
• Attend SWS retail store events to provide insights, presentations, and knowledge to the walk-in customer base and build new customer relationships.
• Provide customer, retail store, sales representative support via phone, Microsoft Teams, in person, etc.
• Share high level protocols and recommendations from Simplot’s Director of Veterinarian Research
• Organize educational opportunities for producers (tech bulletins, educational meetings/producer meetings, etc…)
Typical Education
Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent
3-5 years related experience and/or training. Extensive knowledge of beef and dairy cattle is required; and knowledge of state and federal regulations as they apply to the beef cattle industry. 3-5 years related experience and/or training.
Required Certifications
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM). Licensed by Board of Veterinary Medicine - State of Idaho. Idaho Board of Pharmacy FDA - controlled substance registration
