Assistant Calf Ranch Manager

Summary

As a member of the Calf Ranch Management team, the Assistant Calf Manager is involved in the overall operations and development of calf programs, facilities, and equipment. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Involved in developing protocols and activities regarding the care and feeding and bedding of calves.
  • Work with feeders to ensure effective feeding procedures for proper daily gain and to meet growth stature goals.
  • Help maintain cleanliness and biosecurity in calf facilities.
  • Involved in and managing personnel activities within feeding, movement, and doctoring.
  • Administer medications, vaccines, and electrolytes. 
  • Support continuous improvement in calf care protocols.
  • Support inventory management for feed, medication and supplies.
  • Coordinate animal movement and housing transitions.  
  • Compile, analyze, track specifications, and performance records.

Typical Education

  • Bachelor's Degree (B.A. or B.S.) from 4 year college or university in related field

Relevant Experience

  • Five plus years dairy and livestock experience with extensive experience working with calves, strong feeding and animal health knowledge as well as cattle management practices.
  • Management or senior experience in calf ranch and feedlot production operations.  

 

Key Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work as a part of the management team and oversee multiple employees. 
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish a plus.
  • Computer skills including excel, word, etc. and willingness to learn cattle management software.  
  • Perform tasks efficiently and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment.   

Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds; to walk or stand for long periods of time.
  • Must have sufficient mobility to get in and out of pens.

Work Environment

  • Ability to be flexible in various working conditions such as in adverse/outdoor conditions as well as within the office environment.
  • Ability to work early mornings, weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Work may be performed in pens with animals present.
