Summary
The Mechanic works independently and with other plant personnel to perform preventative, predictive and routine maintenance tasks. This role includes troubleshooting issues, repairing failures of production and facilities equipment, and ensuring maximum equipment efficiency and effectiveness. This person provides direction for effective execution of maintenance activity on all machinery and equipment throughout the plant and office facilities. The Maintenance Mechanic is also responsible for the optimum utilization of available resources such as manpower, equipment, time, etc. This person must be responsible for decisions, actions and failures; must establish clear responsibilities and processes for monitoring work and measuring results. In addition, the maintenance mechanic must partner with others to get work done and work cooperatively with others across the organization to achieve shared objectives.
- This position reports to the Maintenance Manager, Maintenance Supervisors, and Maintenance Leads.
- The individual in this position will possess a working knowledge of mechanical safety, as well as understanding of the equipment within the facility.
- The individual in this position must be able to work alone, unsupervised, as well as working in a team environment. Individual must be able to follow directions and instructions from maintenance department personnel. Good working relationships and communication are key ingredients to the success of the individual holding this position. In addition, they must be able to attend all scheduled training.
- The individual in this position will be required to fully understand the purpose and operation of the process systems and equipment in the plant, along with having the ability to make decisions based on sound judgment when a situation dictates. It is imperative the person(s) conduct themselves in a manner that ensures alertness and constant awareness of the safe operation of the equipment and its surroundings.
- The work area includes inside and outside of the facility predicated on work requirements. Weekend and overtime work is common and may be required to meet operational goals and training needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensures there is no injury to self or others by following safe work practices (including Standard Operating Procedures) and policies.
- Food Safety is everyone’s responsibility.
- Attend and participate in all training activities for the position. Ensure the acquired skills and knowledge are applied.
- Ensure sanitation of equipment and housekeeping of the entire facility.
- Ensures self-compliance with Company policies, Standard Operating Procedures, and the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- Must be a team player and help to meet operational goals.
- Conducts oneself in a professional manner and ensures that personal appearance meets the standards necessary to perform the job functions while representing the Company.
- Performs all such other duties as may be reasonably assigned by Manager.
- Ensure Food Safety by following all Good Manufacturing Practices and policies.
- Must be a self-starter, motivated, and self-sufficient.
- Under the supervision and direction of the maintenance supervisor and other qualified maintenance department personnel.
- Completes work orders as assigned, and plans and schedules additional work needed.
- Performs preventive maintenance in/on the facility.
- Researches, procures, and maintains inventory of painting supplies.
- Prepares surfaces appropriately to receive the correct paint with great attention to detail.
- Maintains work area and equipment in a clean and operable fashion.
- Accurately fills out and maintains the daily log.
- Communicates with Department Managers, Shift Managers, Supervisors, Team Leaders and other department personnel regarding project progress.
- Able to read and understand training materials and other information related to the job and complete paperwork in a timely manner.

Other Information
- Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanics; Basic electrical repair in an industrial/manufacturing environment; Ability to read and interpret documents and drawings and write detailed repair reports; Ability to analyze and make decisions; Ability to diagram equipment control problems; Strong verbal and written English communication skills; Good organizational and planning skills.
- Preferred: Experience with 480-volt power and 24 control voltages to 120 volt electrical troubleshooting; Program and trouble shoot Allen Bradley SLC500 and MicroLogix series. Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactory, and represent the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. - Physical Requirements: Lift and move heavy equipment; Climb ladders and work in high, precarious places.
- Working Environment: May be exposed to wet or humid conditions; May be exposed to outdoor weather conditions; May be exposed to high noise environments; May be exposed to chemicals used in the process; Could be in temperatures of -5 degrees.
