Reporting to the Market Manager this position will market products to growers by initiating sales calls and developing customer relationships.  The Crop Advisor role will be responsible for providing consultative advice and agronomic services in respect to Crop Nutrition, Seed, Crop Protection, Diversified Products, and Technology.  This position will focus on portfolio growth and will be responsible for identifying opportunities, establishing customer accounts & financials, positioning sales offerings with customers, and assisting the operations staff in adequate execution of sales.

Working in a team environment, this role will also be expected to collaborate with other Crop Advisors and Operations staff as directed by Market Manager and/or Area Manager, to increase knowledge, develop sales, enhance marketing efforts, manage customer relationships, and increase area profitability.  This position will also be expected to perform miscellaneous duties such as attending meetings, training seminars, & industry events.

Key Responsibilities
  • Marketing: Develop customer accounts and manage customer relations / records.  Communicate pricing and program offerings to growers.  Responsible for overall volumes, margins, and profitability of their customer accounts. 
  • Communication: Consistently communicates with customers to generate accurate forecasts.  Reports accurate forecasts to Market Manager.  Maintains constant communication with customers & manager to ensure supply of product.  Accurately reports detailed market influences and competitor offerings. 
  • Execution:  Assist in follow through of sales.  Communicate with operations staff and assist with on location services as well as deliveries to customer.  Ensure each account’s financial matters are in good standing. 
  • Development: Continues to develop agronomic and marketing skill sets through industry events, various training opportunities, and peer to peer communication.  Attends and actively participates in internal meetings and training sessions.
  • Leadership: Mentors and provides guidance to other Crop Advisors and operations staff. 
Typical Education
  • Post-Secondary education in Agriculture, Marketing, or Business preferred. 
Relevant Experience
  • The position will require someone who is self-motivated with the ability to foster high level relationships and service. There will be a requirement to travel in the territory to see the customer base on a regular, almost daily, basis.
  • Knowledge of existing and planned markets and market-related initiatives from the perspectives of the competition, the suppliers, the customer base and the regulatory environment; ability to apply this knowledge appropriately to diverse situations.
  • Knowledge of mathematical concepts and ability to calculate and interpret numbers used in conducting business transactions.
  • Ability to apply basic economics and business principles to farming including finance, pricing, supply, demand, and market research and development to get the most economic value out of the investment of time, materials, and labor.
  • Knowledge of customer service concepts and techniques; ability to meet or exceed customer needs and expectations and provide excellent service in a direct or indirect manner.
  • Knowledge of major products and services and product and service groups.  Ability to apply this knowledge appropriately to diverse situations.
