Senior Manager Innovation and Food Applications

Food innovation and application is a combination of art and science, translating market and customer needs into business winning ideas supporting the overall business strategy.  In our quest to explore new possibilities for potatoes beyond our existing product footprint, it is mission-critical to build new capabilities to explore food solutions and strategic new categories that satisfy unmet customer needs. This position is a technical leadership position, leveraging both internal and external innovation resources to develop new food application platforms for both existing and new customers, leveraging existing and emerging processes.  Our new value-added solutions are positioned to drive incremental growth and diversify our product and customer base, aligning with our innovation strategy.  With anticipated growth, this role will be expected to build a high-performance applications team in due course.

Key Responsibilities
  • Builds new capabilities by developing food applications for a wide range of platforms and ingredients
  • Enables our new venture business to showcase our products in customer applications to drive growth with new and existing customers
  • Develops new products and platforms using existing and emerging technologies and processes, including managing external innovation partners
  • Meets the ongoing need for innovation and a diversified portfolio as part of our growth strategy
  • Technical sales/business development to assist sales in presenting concepts and innovation to customers to drive growth
  • Acts as technical liason with customers
  • Conduct ongoing research into food utilization trends using scientific, engineering and/or culinary principles
  • Keep Simplot up to date on trends to maintain competitive advantage through innovation
  • Build food application competency and over time lead team


Typical Education
  • Bachelor's Degree (BA or BS) in Food Science or related degree is required
  • Master's Degree (MA, MS or MBA) is preffered
Relevant Experience
  • 8-10 years of relevant experience is required.
  • Substantial experience in Food Science R&D is essential
  • Must be able to demonstrate experience bringing new products to market
  • Significant understanding of business requirements and technical limitations
  • Exposure to dealing at senior management level an advantage.
  • Demonstrated understanding of financial terms and documents and a good level of business acumen
