Mill Operator - Feedlot

SUMMARY 
Prepares feed for feedlot livestock by operating the mill and related facilities in an effective and efficient manner in order to produce the quality and quantity of livestock feed products established by the Feedlot Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Operates mill rollers, augers, and steam flaker to prepare and store grain for livestock consumption.

Maintains and cleans mill equipment according to the Mill Supervisor's instructions in order to prevent potential safety and fire hazards.

Operates the hay chopper and front-end loader to push and chop hay for livestock consumption.

Assists in unloading grain and hay products from trucks using tractors and loaders.

Performs other tasks as assigned by the Mill Supervisor and/or Feedlot Manager.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 
One or more years experience in general feedlot operations.  Knowledge of grain roller and hay chopper operations.  Demonstrated knowledge of safety procedures and practices applicable to the operation of mill equipment.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS 
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS 
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

 

REASONING ABILITY 
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS 
Must be a licensed driver of single axle vehicles.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The employee frequently works in high, precarious places and in outside weather conditions and is frequently exposed to risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
