Mechanic 1 (Feedlot)

SUMMARY:

Repairs and overhauls automobiles, trucks, four wheelers, and other automotive vehicles and related components/attachments. Ensure that maintenance and repairs on equipment are accomplished properly and timely.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under limited supervision, work with the team to support the daily operations of a busy agricultural shop. Set up, adjust, and operate machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, boring machines, drills and punch presses, and grinders in the fabrication and repair of feedlot and/or farm vehicles, machinery, and equipment. Must be skilled in the areas of heavy equipment, troubleshooting, diagnostics and repair, engine hydraulics, welding, and preventive maintenance systems. Will work with a team of skilled mechanics as well as with management and vendors to efficiently maintain fleet.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred; minimum of one year experience or equivalent training from a certified driving school; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

REQUIREMENTS

Must provide own hand tools and have basic computer skills. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and service manuals. Ability to write simple correspondence.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES

Work days will include some evenings, weekends, and holidays, depending on business need and schedule.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to fumes, dirt and dust, or airborne particles and vibration. The employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
