The Senior Scientist is an experienced molecular biologist to serve a leadership role on a collaborative team with a focus on trait discovery and product development combining genome editing, Innate technology and breeding to improve crops, such as potato and strawberry. In this role, you will lead a team of molecular biologists, serve as a principal investigator, work in the laboratory, and advise leadership on strategy and vision. You will manage multiple scientific projects simultaneously and produce high-quality, well-documented results that will be clearly communicated with colleagues and stakeholders. Fostering the employee’s professional development and career progression is a major focus of supervisors and colleagues alike.

  • Develop and apply new technology and insights, focusing on team success.
  • Contribute to the optimization of existing methods and rapidly adapt new methods.
  • Serve as a principal investigator on one or more trait or enabling projects.

Typical Education

  • Doctorate degree (Ph.D.) and postdoctoral research in molecular biology or related field.

Relevant Experience

  • 8+ years of industrial biotech experience.
  • Proven experience effectively leading individuals and projects.
  • Proficient molecular biology skills, including plasmid design and cloning, quantitative PCR, and gene expression analysis.
  • Experience working collaboratively and independently in support of team goals.
  • Evidence of complex problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to perform assays, gather data, and develop process improvements.
  • Proficient use of appropriate tools to document and analyze experiments.
  • Experience with genome editing, Agrobacterium transformation, and RNAi.
  • Plant tissue culture, protoplast, and plant virus experience is valuable.
  • Genomics and bioinformatics experience is valuable.
  • Plant physiology and breeding knowledge is valuable.
  • Working understanding and respect for U.S. and international regulatory laws.

  • Limited travel to scientific meetings 1-2 times/year.
