Senior Database Administrator

Summary

The Information Management and Analytics (IM&A) Team is responsible for creating and maintaining a modern data and analytics platform to support our company’s dynamic global needs.  In this position, you will contribute to building a complete value chain from source system to a Kimball-modeled Enterprise Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence (BI) Platform, providing insight across the entire organization.  We are currently looking for an innovative and driven collaborator interested in joining our Information Management team to provide solutions for our Business Partners and help inspire a data-driven culture!

Key Responsibilities
  • Administration and support of the SQL Server and general RDBMS environments.  May also include administration of Data Lake, Data Management, Data Archive, and Integration platforms.
  • In collaboration with the infrastructure team, design, build, and maintain standards-based, reliable data platform solutions for the global enterprise.
  • Establish patching and version update plans to comply with security, change management, and other applicable policies.  Provide input into those policies.
  • Collaborate with other Simplot Technology teams on their db-related efforts including advanced support of application databases (on SQL Server/Azure SQL).
  • Work with vendors and managed-service providers to enable their data-related needs/services and ensure their compliance with Simplot standards and policies.
  • Monitor for DB server health, database performance, and other indicators of potential issues and attempt to address them preemptively.
  • Refresh lower environments, perform database restores, and conduct regular disaster recovery simulations.
  • Utilize Azure DevOps for work item management, CI/CD automation, and source control.
  • Coordinate and prioritize the shared work item backlog with onsite and offshore DBA partners.
  • Participate in and conduct design and code reviews, produce documentation, and contribute to company-wide standards.
  • Cultivate cross-functional, collaborative relationships with Data Owners/Stewards and IT Professionals.
  • Communicate technical and business topics to key Business Stakeholders.
  • Manage and prioritize time across project, support, and enhancement initiatives.
Typical Education
  • Bachelor's Degree (B.A. or B.S.) from 4 year college or university
Relevant Experience
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and writing skills with a focus on customer service and servant leadership.
  • Extensive experience writing advanced SQL queries for SQL Server or other modern RDBMS.
  • Extensive experience monitoring, optimizing, and tuning database engines, queries, indexes, etc.
  • Scripting experience using languages such as Python, PowerShell, and/or Windows Batch script.
  • 5+ years’ experience as a dedicated administrator of Microsoft SQL Server in complex configurations and large on-premise deployments.  Azure cloud database administration experience is a plus (growth area for Simplot).
  • Oracle, DB2, MariaDB, MySQL, PostgreSQL, SAP Hana, Hadoop, or MongoDB experience is a plus.
  • Experience with Solarwinds (or similar) SQL Server monitoring tools.
  • Strong experience with backup, high availability clustering, disaster recovery, log shipping, and change data capture.
  • Demonstrated understanding of database schemas, security, patching, user management, etc.
  • Flexibility and availability to participate in/lead meetings with participants in multiple time zones (primarily US, Australia, India).
  • Ability to obtain a passport.  Some travel (domestic and/or international) may be necessary from time to time.
