Senior Accountant

Summary

Under limited supervision, this role supports global fixed assets, capital projects, and lease accounting. This includes a variety of complex accounting projects involving the development, implementation, and maintenance of accounting and financial reporting procedures. This position offers the opportunity to work cross-functionally with teams across Finance, Engineering, Procurement, Operations, and Tax, ensuring accurate reporting and robust asset management processes throughout the asset lifecycle. The role will ensure management is provided with relevant, comparable, and accurate data on which to base decisions.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the transformation of fixed asset processes through participation in systems integration projects and modernization of asset accounting.
• Manage and reconcile fixed asset and lease accounts, ensuring timely recognition and proper capitalization of assets.
• Record and review journal entries, accruals, and reclassifications in compliance with GAAP and internal policies.
• Interpret and understand lease terms, including payment schedules, options, and renewal clauses.
• Accurately record and report lease transactions.
• Prepare and maintain fixed asset and lease accounting schedules, ensuring accuracy and adherence to accounting guidance.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to align asset management processes and financial tracking and reporting.
• Collaborate with Tax and Treasury on asset classification and depreciation compliance globally.
• Support audits and respond to capital project, fixed asset, and lease inquiries from internal and external auditors. 
• Support and assist junior accounting staff in the development of their professional skills.

Typical Education

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from a 4 year college or university

Relevant Experience

• 5+ years related experience and/or training
• Experience in fixed assets and lease accounting
• Advanced proficiency in ERP systems, reporting systems and/or financial systems (e.g., SAP, Excel, Lease Accelerator, Power BI)
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on data-driven decision-making
• Knowledge of GAAP, fixed assets accounting, and the fixed asset lifecycle
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
