This role supports the plant transformation and gene editing efforts for improving the agronomic performance of potato and, potentially, other crops through biotechnology. Has a high level of techniques, efficiency and displays technical ability excellence laboratory methods. Works independent and with their team to set up and carry out experiments. Troubleshoots, summarized and reports results. Optimizes existing methods and rapidly adapts new methods. Involved in multiple projects simultaneously and has a working understanding of the theoretical basis of these and related projects. May act as a study principle investigator facilitating research projects. Expect to provide training and guidance to lower level employees. May supervise other employees as a primary job function.

• Participate in carrying out routine lab functions including but not limited to, biohazards waste containment and removal, inventory, cleaning of lab equipment and supplies, preparing reagents, and collecting and disposing of transgenic tissues.
• Applies appropriate technologies to solutions of high complexity.
• Write detailed standard operating procedures and protocols.
• Authors scientific manuscripts and patent applications.
• Adeptly sets up complex experiments, interpret, analyze and summarize experimental data.

Typical Education

  • Doctoral degree (Ph. D.) or equivalent

Relevant Experience

  • 1+ years related experience and/or training
  • Advanced understanding and consolidated expertise in a field of plant tissue culture, transformation, gene editing and biotechnology.
  • Approve strategies and solutions for conducting experiments.
  • Implements process improvement to facilitate experimental efficiency.
  • Proficient use of appropriate tools to document and analyze experiments.
  • Critical thinking skills to perform assays and gather data.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Responsible for meeting deadlines.
  • Proven use of critical thinking and communication to solve technical problems.
  • Experience working collaboratively and independently in support of team efforts.
  • Skilled in presenting experiment data and results.
