Sales Representative Trainee (Food Products)

These endeavors have been around for centuries and will continue to be a vital part of the global economy. We currently have Sales Representative Trainee (SRT) positions available within our Food Group organization.  The SRTs will initially be based at our HQ office in Boise, Idaho for a 4+ month sales development training program. Upon successful completion of the SRT program, individuals will be promoted into a field-based sales role in one of our locations throughout the U.S.



The Sales Representative Trainee program for the Simplot Food Service selling organization is an integrated learning opportunity, preparing you to be a leading field sales representative in the food service industry. The program is structured to develop an understanding of customer needs by engaging in solution-based consultative selling; developing product/technical expertise; refining communication, presentation, and leadership skills; and building a thorough understanding of company structure, roles, functions, and core values. The goal of this program is to prepare you, at the end of the training period, to move into a field sales position within Simplot’s Food Group Sales organization. 

After the training period at Simplot’s corporate headquarters, successful trainees will be placed into a certain geography/market where the company has the business need. Trainees must be open to relocating to all locations throughout the US. While we can’t guarantee a specific location, efforts will be made to place you close to your desired geography. 

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the Sales Planner in the development of local market plans for the field designed to help them reach their sales objectives.
  • Support the lead management process as customers engage with Simplot via email or phone, which would include handling the product inquiry or information request to close or communicating customer needs to the field for further follow up.
  • Support Regions with distributor customers not assigned to a field sales person. Develop relationships with assigned customers through frequent touch via phone/email and potential local market visits.
  • Fully embrace and become proficient with the Simplot Sales Process and executing the go-to-market strategies.
  •  Using a consultative approach, communicate the selling benefits of the Simplot product line in addition to the sale of products to ensure that customers are provided with the product knowledge they need to be successful.
  • Deliver on set sales goals and manage product portfolio.
  • Represent the full Simplot product line in all sales capacities. Conduct sales calls to operators in the market, sometimes extending across multiple markets. Utilize various means to recruit and establish new partnerships for the sales of products.
  • Build relationships and partner with various internal departments to accomplish key initiatives and complete day-to-day operations.
  • Research industry and marketing trends and develop product suggestions based on findings. Supply programs, information, and tools that aid selling efforts.
  • Be actively engaged in promoting and driving sales across the entire product portfolio with priority emphasis on those product categories and individual products identified as the most strategically and financially important to the division.
  • Be highly engaged in the use and leverage available with the Simplot CRM system ( to drive efficiency and strong results.
  • Work to drive customer acceptance of new product introductions and other innovation as relevant to the market.
  • Understand local market dynamics, operators, distributors, competitors, etc. and incorporate as necessary into local market sales plan.
  • Identify or follow-up on new operator sales opportunities with ability to assess the opportunity and match to product and other solutions; e.g., merchandising, recipe, culinary, etc.
Typical Education

·      Bachelor's Degree from 4 year college or university

·      Strong academic record (suggested minimum 3.0 GPA), with a bachelor’s degree preferably in Agriculture, Food Science, Sales, Marketing, Business, or Hospitality
