Supporting the Food Group Business Unit’s strategic direction, this position plays a critical role in progressing the Food Group’s Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) process. The Demand Planning Manager will lead a team accountable to drive discussion and decisions, prior to and as a component of the integrated demand management review working through senior leaders, to help drive key business decisions. In this element of the planning process, this role will work closely with Sales, Marketing and Operations leaders to help match demand to supply in an efficient and profitable manner.  Also responsible for the development of demand shaping recommendations for consideration by the demand owners, through cross functional collaboration this role leads teams including Sales & Marketing, Operations and Finance etc. to help shape and optimize customer and product portfolios.  This role requires discipline to manage within strict timelines as defined by the S&OP process requiring significant emphasis on skills including analytics, critical thinking, communication, and relationship management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead cross-functional teams with participants from Operations Planning, Finance, and Sales & Marketing to advise senior demand management team on maximization of long-term profitability through active management of product and customer mix.
  • Develop sales forecasts through a compilation of demand streams including statistical modeling, market inputs, macroeconomic signals, competitive threats, qualitative feedback through both Sales and Marketing and consideration of risks and opportunities against the plan. 
  • Collaborate with Sales, Marketing, Operations and Finance leaders to optimize customer satisfaction and profitability through improved case fill rates, increased forecast accuracy, and optimization of inventory positioning. 
  • Develop proposals to improve demand fulfillment with consideration for the customers’ needs across a holistic view of the supply chain network (customer/Simplot). Work with key customers to deliver better integrated network performance and solutions. 
  • Coordinate with Sales and Operations to maximize customer satisfaction while ensuring alignment to strategy. Ensure effective utilization of capacity through situational events (i.e. allocations, raw crop transitions, etc.). 
  • Coordinate communication of business plans and collaborate on solutions with the Operations teams to find optimal supply options particularly in times of constraint.
  • Develop and utilize analytics to influence recommendations and business solutions.
  • Lead a small direct reporting team overseeing segment responsibilities. Responsible for developing a high performing team and managing all components of the employee lifecycle (i.e. hiring, training, establishment of goals and objectives, development, performance management, compensation and employee relations.)
  • Monitor and communicate forecast accuracy to business unit and supply chain organizations

Typical Education

Bachelor's Degree (B.A. or B.S.) from 4 year college or university

Relevant Experience

  • 5+ years related experience with 1 year of people leadership experience.

  • Possess an aptitude for understanding the supply chain dynamics involved in forecasting, production, inventory, and distribution.
  • Experience with a formal Sales and Operations Planning process and demand planning/forecasting software preferred
  • Demonstrated strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work with strict timelines exhibiting both excellent critical thinking and interpersonal skills.
