International Logistics Manager- Boise, ID

Summary

International Logistics is a dynamic and complex function that is fundamental to Simplot’s growth strategy. The position of Senior International Logistics Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of international transportation activities, initiatives and processes. This includes overseeing export drayage moves to and from originating ports, managing drayage carriers, as well as ensuring shipments move in and out of destination ports in a timely and cost-effective manner. This role is responsible for coordinating and facilitating the procurement of ocean freight. The position also provides guidance, oversight and direct supervision to the International Logistics Team, and cultivates a network of business partners within the transportation and logistics industry. The scope of this position continues to expand as we execute a comprehensive Global Freight strategy. 

Key Responsibilities

• Provides leadership, coaching and mentoring to the International Logistics Team. 
• Plans, organizes, directs, and monitors the daily activities of the International Logistics Team.
• Ensures the ongoing development of subordinates to support current and future business needs while maintaining a highly motivated team environment.
• Effectively interfaces with the Warehousing, Sales Operations, Customer Service, Order Management, Global Trade and Regulatory Compliance, and Deployment team, along with freight forwarders, drayage, air, rail and ocean carriers, to ensure our international customers receive the required service, in an efficient and cost-effective manner that meets all safety and regulatory requirements.
• In conjunction with other global business units, coordinates the negotiation of rates and contracts with truck / drayage and ocean carriers, subject to the company’s contract review process.
• Oversees the tactical execution of ocean carrier contracts, and in doing so, ensure we are leveraging exceptional carrier service to meet our future demand requirements, and have the optimal carrier diversification to sustain cost effective business continuity.
• Manages the process, and resolves issues pertaining to daily shipping of cargo destined to / from ports around the world.
• Discovers opportunities to reduce costs, including excess demurrage charges, chassis utilization, and other accesorial charges.

Typical Education

Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) from 4 year college or university

Relevant Experience

5+ years related experience and/or training

Other Information

• Familiarity with the use of international shipping regulations and terms, including customs documents, duties and duty drawback, INCO terms, liability, and sources of potential charges is necessary.
