Summary

The HR Business Partner is responsible for building collaborative business partnerships with key business leaders for the Mining and Manufacturing function of the business, to provide coaching, HR expertise and counseling on key people decisions, in support of the business and functional strategies.

As the primary business partner, the role is responsible to fully understand the business objectives to help build an actionable people strategy for the part of the business they support. The individual will work closely with the Centers of Excellence (COE), to seamlessly drive Human Resource objectives throughout the business.

Working closely with functional leaders, the role will drive companywide initiatives in the areas of Talent & Succession, Leadership Development, Total Rewards and Employee & Labor Relations. May provide coaching to other HR professionals, to ensure functional business objectives are met.

Key Responsibilities

  • Works with business leaders, managers and other HR professionals to ensure the effective management of individual performance, and alignment with policies, work rules, and collective bargaining agreements where applicable.
  • Provides direct coaching and counsel to managers and other HR professionals, partnering with senior HR leader and in-house counsel when appropriate, to address application of policies and HR procedures, and performance issues that may include potential termination of employment.
  • Involved in negotiations of collective bargaining agreements.
  • Leads organizational design discussions, and engagement survey action planning for assigned business area.
  • Leads talent reviews for assigned business area, for roll-up into Group-wide talent & succession plans.
  • Partners closely with Talent & Succession team to ensure consistent and effective implementation of talent & succession programs.
  • Ensures COE and other subject matter experts are included throughout the project to ensure consistency and successful completion of the project.
  • Works with leadership teams and COE to ensure we are effectively developing leaders within the assigned business area.
  • Works with Total Rewards and Talent Acquisition teams to ensure consistent application of pay across assigned business area.
  • Works directly with the Senior Director of Labor Relations to ensure alignment with company processes and business objectives for labor relations matters.

Typical Education

Bachelor's Degree (B.A. or B.S.) from 4 year college or university

Relevant Experience

8+ years related experience and/or training

Other Information

  • Manages both large and small business projects for assigned business area, that impact organizational structure, people or people processes.
  • Works with group HR team to monitor/audit pay application across all business functions.
  • Works with leaders on assigned area of the business, to lead change initiatives, either driven by the Company, the business, or the business functional area.
  • Provides coaching to business leaders to assign salaries and ensure equity across business.
  • Ability to influence at all levels of the organization. Ability to facilitate consensus across groups.
  • Deep experience in the application of employment laws.
  • PHR/SPHR or similar HR certification preferred. Adheres to all standards, policies and systems as appropriate.
