Director Sales Planning (Boise, ID)

The Director of Sales Planning is primarily responsible for three sales functions: Sales Planning, Inside Sales, and Sales Early Talent Development.  The Sales Planning team is responsible for the development of detailed sales execution plans to support the achievement of annual sales, volume and margin objectives for assigned sales channels.  The Inside Sales team works closely with field sales to qualify leads, develop sales campaigns, and field in-coming inquiries. This role is also responsible for the hiring and execution of the Food Group Sales Representative Trainee and Sales Intern programs. In this role, you work collaboratively with Sales Leadership, Marketing, Demand Planning and other functional groups to ensure the Sales teams have exceptional planning support to effectively achieve customer goals and targets.

Key Responsibilities

Sales Planning:

  • Lead internal efforts to develop business plans to support the execution against annual sales budgets
  • Work directly with the Demand Planning team to help align the sales forecast and support the Simplot Sales & Operations Planning process.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining sales management tools, adoption of best practices, KPIs, dashboards and reports.
  • Develop and support processes to ensure consistent assessment and assignment of priority customers and prospects
  • Manage end to end Business Planning Calendar for sales execution
  • Provide the support for maximum CRM use and leverage relevant metrics and reporting for all areas of supported sales teams and associated leadership.
  • Coordinate with respective marketing functions for the development of relevant marketing programs and initiatives for operators and distributors
  • Manage broad-based communication from FG Headquarters to the field


Inside Sales:

  • Align with sales leadership on strategy to leverage inside sales to support sales efforts.
  • Work with marketing on digital campaigns and field inquiries from perspective customers to qualify leads and determine next steps
  • Identify tier 2 & 3 distributor partners and develop plans to drive growth


New Talent Hiring & Development:

  • Oversee and manage the development and execution of the Food Group Sales Representative Trainee Program
  • Develop and manage a sales internship program

Typical Education

  • Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university required, Master of Business Administration (MBA) desirable

Relevant Experience

  • 10+ years related experience and/or training. Sales experience strongly preferred, with proven experience developing sales plans and exceeding results
  • 5+ years experience developing and leading a high performing team
  • Ability to travel 20% (domestic)
  • People leadership experience required
  • Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills required, with the ability to influence across functional boundaries
  • Excellent presentation, facilitation and verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven organizational skills with demonstrated ability to effectively work across boundaries
  • A good understanding of the food industry and a working knowledge of related supply chain, sales, marketing, and financial processes preferred
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office programs and Sales Reporting Systems
