Simplot’s Plant Sciences division works to improve potato varieties, using biotechnology for the purpose of making better food. The New Markets Director sits on the leadership team, helping to guide the group from early product concept to market launch.  Ultimately, the New Markets Director promotes a culture of innovation and utilizes the principles of design thinking in a test, learn, and iterate approach to market testing. This individual will lead a team responsible for financial analysis, food science, marketing / market research, and biotech affairs, along with developing the supply chain as needed. Responsibilities include: owning top line revenue; sales and market strategy development; and business plan or concept development for all of the potential opportunities. This role will also work with other Simplot businesses to ensure overall objectives are met.

Key Responsibilities

  • As a member of the Plant Sciences Leadership Team, help guide the group to develop a strategy of innovation leading to new products that support Simplot’s business.
  • Leads new business initiatives and analyses, including but not limited to establishing Test Market programs. This will include the development of complete business cases for each initiative; developing the test market process for each new initiative that has recently been elevated to New Markets / Market Testing Status; develop benchmark criteria to measure the efficiency, effectiveness, and attractiveness of each new market initiative.
  • Provide a process to guide outcomes of the market testing including the guidance to lead into the market test phase and the guidelines for completing and exiting the process; and present to Senior Simplot Leaders, with the Plant Sciences Leadership Team, results of market testing initiatives, including the business case, with thorough analysis of results and recommendations for future action.
  • Has full P&L responsibility for activities occurring in the new market space.
  • Leads with an emphasis on collaboration to enable the testing of new markets and new opportunities. This will include business analyses, market research, food science, and biotech affairs. Work closely with all groups and divisions in  Simplot, embracing a One Simplot approach in all aspects of business.
  • In support of New Market Testing, lead sales activities, customer development, distribution, and marketing programs. These include: own the revenue line for Plant Sciences; Design and test the appropriate sales organization for the new business. These activities may occur through collaboration with other Simplot groups.

Typical Education

  • Bachelor's Degree (B.A. or B.S.) from 4 year college or university
  • MBA is preferred.

Relevant Experience

  • 10+ years related experience and/or training

Other Information

A minimum of 5 years of practical experience in the field of market development in a Senior Leadership role. Deep experience developing business plans and business cases is required.
