Director of Logistics (Boise, ID)

The Director Logistics is responsible for transforming our domestic transportation operations to meet service level expectations while minimizing cost. This involves developing close relations with both our customers and our transportation providers.  In doing so, this position will ensure organizational structure and talent is positioned to support Simplot’s Supply Chain Strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership to team members, ensuring timely feedback is provided, growth opportunities are outlined, misalignment is corrected, and exemplary performance is recognized and rewarded.
  • Lead the Logistics team to achieve business goals in support of expected growth. Foster positive relationships and close collaborations with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensures organizational structure and talent is positioned to support the logistics strategy.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of the current transportation regulations specific to the food industry and ensure that the department is cross trained accordingly.
  • Identify learning opportunities that enhance the knowledge and capabilities of the department.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to anticipate and solve logistical problems with a focus on cost-effective service.
  • Develop processes that provide for seamless communication to CSR’s allowing for real time customer updates.
  • Provide proactive communication regarding shipment status, market conditions, and compliance requirements to customers as well as internal stakeholders.
  • Analyze the transportation financial impact of proposed logistics changes, such as routing, shipping modes, product volumes or mixes, carriers or compliance changes and requirements.
  • Develop and report transportation metrics, including on-time, in transit, claims performance, and cost analytics.
  • Establish and monitor carrier compliance to performance targets.
  • Manage team to tender loads based on carrier management strategy.
  • Monitor the status of deliveries. Quickly develop contingency plans as necessary to minimize delays.
  • Monitor and mitigate carrier claims until resolved.
  • Assess current systems and processes to identify and develop opportunities for improvements.

Typical Education

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in business administration or logistics or supply chain management or related industry experience with a minimum of 5+ years Senior Management experience.

Relevant Experience

  • Possesses personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and commitment to corporate mission.
  • 8+ years in supply chain management, logistics, and distribution. Preferably in senior positions.
  • Skilled in organizational development, personnel management, budget and resource development, and strategic planning.
  • Excellent people skills, with an ability to partner with other leadership teams.
  • A proven track record of driving change and delivering results.
  • Extensive knowledge of negotiating transportation rate agreements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proven track record of solutioning.
  • Strong understanding of inbound volume planning.
  • Flexible and able to multitask within a fast-moving environment.
  • First-hand and on-hand experience with a Yard Management Systems and Transportation Management Systems.
  • Prior experience in food transportation and storage is preferred.
  • Must have excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills.
