Summary

This role has the ability to apply intermediate level of subject matter knowledge to solve a variety of common business issues. Works on problems/projects of moderately complex scope. Utilizes professional concepts and theoretical knowledge acquired through specialized training, education or previous experience. Exercises independent judgment within defined parameters or practices to determine appropriate action. Develops expertise and practical knowledge of applications within business environment. Acts as an informed team member by providing information, analysis and recommendations in support of team efforts. Evaluates unique circumstances and makes recommendations.

 

The Business Intelligence Engineer will work together with an integrated team of analysts and engineers to assist in the administration of Power BI as a platform as well as assist in the design, development, and implementation of innovative BI solutions using a variety of platforms. The BI Engineer will work both independently and collaboratively to advance the use of innovative and purpose-built solutions centered around Power BI using a wide-variety of organizational data sources and systems to conceptualize and design information products to communicate meaningful and complex information to program stakeholders and decision-makers. Must reside in Boise, Id or be willing to relocate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participates as a member of development team.
  • Performs basic analysis of functional or business requirements.
  • Completes code stubs prepared by more senior developers. Participates in code review.
  • Prepares and executes Unit tests.
  • Applies advanced technical knowledge to maintain a technology area (e.g. Database Administration). May perform solution design.
  • Applies appropriate technologies to infrastructure and software solutions of moderate complexity.
  • Implements end- user or enterprise infrastructure or services prepared by more senior technologist.

Typical Education

Bachelor's Degree, in Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics/Statistics, Biology/Agronomy or another related major field of study preferred.

Relevant Experience

  • 1-3 years specific experience and/or training with Power BI.
  • 2+ years of experience writing code such as, and not limited to, Python, R, PowerShell, .NET, SQL, Databricks.
  • 2+ years experience querying and transforming data from relational data sources from a variety of data sources such as Databricks Lakehouse Platform, SQL Server, Azure, or other.
  • Basic understanding of modern software development methodologies, development tools and SCM (software configuration management), and basic understanding of Software Test methodologies. Understanding of Basic Database Administration.
  • Broad knowledge of Power BI from an IT context (such as hardware, storage, security, networking, web services, virtualization, cloud computing).
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

Required Certifications

Microsoft/Power BI Certification(s)

This role has a unique position within the organization to create relationships and build solutions for each of Simplot’s many business groups. Ideal candidates will have a comfort and ease interfacing with all levels of business user and enjoy developing creative, persistent solutions to answer complex business questions. Exceptional candidates will have some proficiency with data science concepts and analytical tools and methodologies.
