This role supports the tissue culture and gene editing efforts for improving the agronomic performance of potato and, potentially, other crops through biotechnology. Has a high level of techniques, efficiency and displays technical ability in laboratory methods.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accomplishes short- and long-term experiments successfully. 
  • Demonstrates a high level of technical efficiency in a variety of methods.
  • Carries out some experiments independently.
  • Reports progress and presents results.

  • Contributes to the optimization of existing methods and rapidly adapts new methods.
  • Participate in carrying out routine lab functions including but not limited to, biohazards waste containment and removal, inventory, cleaning of lab equipment and supplies, preparing reagents, and collecting and disposing of transgenic tissues.
  • Works effectively on multiple projects.
  • Applies appropriate technologies to solutions of medium complexity
  • Write detailed standard operating procedures and protocols.
  • Interpret, analyze and summarize experimental data.
  • Adheres to safety practices & guidelines in the workplace.
  • Responsible for tasks, experiments and able to train and guide other scientists; improves time management.

Typical Education

  • Master's degree (M.A. or M.S.) or equivalent

Relevant Experience

  • 3+ years related experience and/or training
  • Advanced understanding, knowledge and experience in a field of plant tissue culture, transformation, gene editing and biotechnology.
  • Applies complex methodologies for conducting experiments.
  • Implements process improvement to facilitate experimental efficiency.
  • Proficient use of appropriate tools to document and analyze experiments.
  • Advanced skills to perform assays and gather data.
  • Progressive verbal and written communication skills.
  • Responsible for meeting deadlines.
  • Proven use of critical thinking and communication to solve technical problems.
  • Experience working collaboratively and independently in support of team efforts.
  • Experience in presenting experiment data and results.
  • Supervisory skills maybe required.
  • Working collaboratively and effectively interact with cross-team members.
  • Perform multiple tasks simultaneously and good organization skills.
