Summary

Simplot Plant Sciences consists of a dynamic group of collaborative scientists working on genetic improvement of crop plants, using Innate technology, gene editing and breeding, as part of the integrated agricultural J.R. Simplot Company. In addition to supporting Plant Sciences, the Analytical Team collaborates with and provides analytical research expertise to other areas of the company. We are located in beautiful Boise, ID, which is a recreationalist's paradise. We currently have an Associate Scientist position available on our Molecular Biology Team located in Boise, Idaho.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the optimization of existing methods and rapidly adapts new methods.
  • Participate in carrying out routine lab functions including but not limited to, biohazards waste containment and removal, inventory, cleaning of lab equipment and supplies, preparing reagents, and collecting and disposing of transgenic tissues.
  • Applies appropriate technologies to solutions of medium complexity
  • Write detailed standard operating procedures and protocols.

Typical Education

  • Ph.D. in molecular biology, plant biology, or related field
  • Master’s degree in molecular biology, plant biology, or related field with 3+ years of industry experience.

Relevant Experience

  • Hard working, self-motivated, flexible, action-oriented and energized to take on challenging tasks with scientific integrity in the presence of ambiguity.
  • Understanding and knowledge of biotechnology.
  • Progressive verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven use of critical thinking and communication to solve technical problems.
  • Experience working collaboratively and independently in support of team efforts.
  • Proficient use of appropriate tools to document and analyze experiments.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, optimize and validate assays and procedures. 
  • Applies complex methodologies for conducting experiments.
  • Advanced skills to perform assays and gather data.
  • Molecular cloning experience essential
  • Experience with gene editing (CRISPR/Cas9)
  • Experience working with plant biology techniques, such as use of protoplasts and virus induced gene silencing valuable.
  • Competent with plasmid design and cloning, quantitative PCR, ddPCR and gene expression analysis.
  • Genomics skills are desired, including experience performing data and network analysis with the latest tools.
  • Knowledge and experience of plant physiology is desired.
