Supports the Agronomic Sciences Team to perform field trial, seed, and greenhouse efforts at Simplot Plant Sciences, where the goal is to genetically improve potato and other crops through biotechnology and breeding.  Requires a highly motivated individual to work in conjunction with R&D to design, manage, analyze, and summarize agronomy research trials; assist in the greenhouse with plant maintenance and optimization; and carry out seed production protocols.  The candidate would preferably have experience in applied agricultural science and understanding of molecular biology.  He/she must demonstrate the ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision, communicate effectively in a multi-disciplinary team, and actively participate in discussions and meetings.  A demonstrated competency in horticulture, plant pathology, or soil fertility would be desirable. Ability to lead and manage projects or team members to support agronomic efforts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the organization and implementation of field trials of new biotech derived potato varieties.
  • Become proficient with Biotechnology Quality Management Systems (BQMS) and other in-house quality management systems to ensure regulatory compliance and the tracking and containment of regulated material.
  • Coordinate with scientists, farm managers, and other external personnel to ensure proper experimental setup and execution of trial from planting to harvest and storage.
  • Participate and often lead in all facets of trial execution including logistics, planting, field notes, harvesting, and grading.
  • Write detailed protocols, record, organize, and analyze data, present technical reports and/or summaries.
  • Serve as a project manager or leader of team members supporting the agronomic efforts of the team.

Typical Education

  • Ph.D. or Master's Degree is preferred in agronomy, biotechnology, horticulture or related field.

Relevant Experience

  • 4+ years  experience or Bachelor's with 8+ years of relevant experience.
